I see so many girls who lower their standards and get into a relationship just because they don’t want to be single anymore. If you are one of these girls, I want to tell you one thing: wait for the guy who will treat you right. Trust me, I have been there. I started dating a guy just because I was tired of being the only one without a boyfriend in my friend group. Do not do it! It’s not worth it. Being single and happy is better than being in a toxic relationship. So be patient and wait. The right guy for you will come when you are least expecting.
So don’t date until you find a guy that:
1.Opens the door for you.
Chivalry is not dead and it shouldn’t be. I think this is one of the sweetest gestures that a guy can do for you. It shows kindness and respect. No matter if you are getting into the car or into a restaurant, your man should open the door for you.
2.Takes care of you when you are sick.
When you don’t feel good you know you will find him at your door with a bowl of chicken soup and some DayQuil.
3.Tells you that you are smart and beautiful everyday.
This is one of the things I love the most about my boyfriend. He never forgets to tell me how beautiful and intelligent I am and he helps me to overcome my insecurity, making me feel good about myself.
4. Cooks for you.
I think that a man who can cook is husband material. It doesn’t matter if he makes you a five course meal or he microwaves some mac and cheese, it is the thought that counts.
5. Helps you overcome your fears.
My boyfriend has this crazy theory that, in order for me to get over my irrational fear of sharks, we need to watch all the existing shark movies and he has to send me scary shark memes every day. It is not working, however, I really appreciate the fact that he is trying so hard to help me get rid of my fears.
6. Supports you.
Before a hard test or a competition your man should be there cheering for you and screaming on the top of his lungs, "You can do it, babe!” Even just a text would work as well.
7. Stays at your side during hard times.
A good guy can be recognized by the fact that he is there for you when you are going through a tough time. He is going to stick at your side encouraging you to move forward and to stay positive.
8. Puts you as his number one priority.
Football and you are basically on the same level. The right guy will make time for his girlfriend and will choose a movie night with you over a night of excessive drinking at the bars.
9. Talks about you to his friends and family (and basically anyone he meets).
His friends are so tired of always hearing about you because that’s all your man talks about. When you love someone, you can’t contain your excitement and you want the entire world to know how amazing your other half is.
10. Shows affection towards you in front of everybody.
Holding your hand and a kiss on the forehead are some of the tenderest gestures a guy can do in public. He is not afraid or ashamed to show his feelings for you in front of other people because he considers you his greatest gift.
11. Deals with your mood swings.
Dating me is like riding a roller coaster. In the morning I am can be happy and chatty, but in the afternoon I could feel like the world is ending. Your man has to be able to handle all your mood changes and brings you chocolate when you are on your periods (it’s in the boyfriend contract).
12. Inspires you to be a better person.
He should always encourage you to be the best version of yourself. He should motivates you to work harder, eat better, aim higher and to always challenge yourself.
13. Would do anything to make you happy.
He would climb up a mountain, go to a Justin Bieber concert, and watch “Pride and Prejudice” with you three times in a row just see that contagious smile on your face. Making you happy is what makes him happy.
14. Tells you you're pretty even without make up.
For some girls wearing no mascara or foundation in front of their boyfriends is a big step. The right guy will make you feel like the most beautiful woman in the planet even if you feel you look like a monster.
15. Takes you on dates.
It does not have to be an expensive meal at a five star restaurant, but simply going to the movies, stargazing while lying on the bed of his truck, or a nice walk in the park are examples of memorable and affordable dates that any girl would like.
16. Is always down to go on an adventure.
A man with an adventurous spirit is always attractive. Going on a Whataburger run at 3 am? Trying that new sketchy looking Thai restaurant? Hiking at Palo Duro going off the beaten path? Every occasion can become an adventure if you want to.
17. Texts you "good night" and "good morning."
This is just a way to say, "I am thinking about you." I love waking up with a good morning text because my day starts off right and falling asleep with a sweet text from my man leaves a smile on my face.
18. Brings you flowers.
I think every girl deserves flowers. This is such a sweet, romantic gesture that many guys overlook, but I think it is extremely appreciated by girls nowadays because it shows love and commitment.
19. Treats you with respect.
He should always respect your boundaries and listen to your needs. I think that the greatness of a man can be seen by the way he treats his woman.
20. Encourages you to follow your passion.
He can sees that when you are doing what you love a fire ignites your soul, making your eyes light up like they have never done before. Your man should encourage you to follow your dreams and support you in the pursuing of your passion. My boyfriend and his mom have been so incredibly supportive in my love for writing and I am so grateful for that.
21. Makes you laugh.
That’s one of the qualities that a girl always looks for in a guy. Your man should have a good sense of humor and with his goofiness and jokes he should always tries to make you laugh.
22. Loves you for who you are.
“All of me loves all of you,” says the famous song of John Legend. The man who is right for you will love the real you, the girl with all her flaws and imperfections. I think that there are not perfect people but just people who are perfect for each other.
23. Sees the future in your eyes.
He wants to be in a long lasting relationship with you and he talks about making plans with you in the future. He is dating you because he wants you to be his life for a long time, not for a one night stand.
I do believe these are all the attributes that makes a man "boyfriend material". Most of all, find a guy that will bring happiness into your life. It took me 21 years to find mine, but the wait was worthy. I am the happiest girl in the world now.
