5 Steps To Help You Find Your Career Path

When it comes to thinking about what you want to do for the rest of your life there is a lot of pressure. There is a lot of pressure because there are a lot of people that know that answer and expect you to know it too. I'm here to say it is okay to not know the answer and although I can't for sure say I have the answer; I have come up with some steps to find your answer.

1. Clear your head of everyone's voices

What I mean by this is: don't listen to what other people think you should do and instead listen to your own voice. If you live your life to please others, then you will never be happy and that isn't a good way to live. Every person wants to love what they do and not everyone gets that dream. There is a lot of people that work to pay the bills and they hate their job and that is a big fear. It's what makes people go crazy about thinking what their career should be because they are afraid of ending up hating what they do. So, clear your head because only you can tell yourself what you want to do for the rest of your life.

2. Make a journal or scrapbook for your ideas

Start a journal that has any idea that pops in your heads. Write a diary and be Elena Gilbert from The Vampire Diaries if you have to. Sometimes writing things down helps you figure things out. I got this idea of collaging and journaling to find out what I want from this movie called The Women (2008) and the main character started a collage saying "What Do I Want?" and just kept adding to it until she figured it out. It may not give you all the answers but it could help.

3. Do some research

Sometimes just typing in what jobs go under your major or whatever you are interested in can help because certain jobs will pop up. You'd be surprised about what jobs are out there and maybe you'll find something that clicks or interests you enough to try. The job you have doesn't have to be your permanent job for most people it is a trial and error. Don't put too much pressure on yourself, keep your mind open or else you could lose a good opportunity before you even knew you had it. Who knows that hobby you have or something you really enjoy could actually end up being a job for you which is everyones dream but who knows maybe you could live that dream.

4. Start with what you don't want to do

If you don't know what you want to do, start with what you DON'T want to do. This especially works when you are a college student who is exploring their options within their major because sometimes the options just sound awful to you and you know that is definitely not on the list of your career choices. You have to start somewhere and it is a step when you at least start eliminating choices.

5. Think of who you want to be

Giphy

Sometimes to find out what you want to do, you need to find out who you want to be. If you don't know who you are or who you want to be then you won't know anything else. You won't know what you want your career to be or where you want to live because you don't know who you are. This really is the main step that cannot be skipped, if you get anything from this article, it has to be this step because it is crucial. You won't truly be able to answer any of the questions you get asked every day or any question you ask yourself unless you know yourself. Once you know who you are and who you want to be then it will be easier to answer this question of what you want to do for the rest of your life.

Again, I don't have all the answers because I am doing these steps myself but I can say that it is helping. I felt like I was in the dark when trying to find out what I want to do for the rest of myself but I am slowly bringing myself to the light. I wish everyone luck and I hope everyone finds their path.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
