When it comes to Christmas, you'll always have that one person who will say that they don't want anything for Christmas. Those people are the hardest to shop for. Trust me, my grandmother is exactly that way. When asked what she wanted for Christmas, she said that she just wanted all of her children and grandchildren with her when her church had their Christmas dinner. However, I figured out the perfect gift to give her. I'll walk you through my process and you can use it to help your stubborn loved one get the gift they'll always want.
1. You notice what kind of product they have in their house.
This one seems simple, but the most simple things can be hidden underneath your nose. My grandmother loves scents like pine, cedar, and other winter trees, so she has those kinds of smells all around the house. Her handsoap is pine, her air fresheners are woodsy, and she simply loves the smells of a Christmas tree. Look around and see the subtle hints that your person drops and that will lead you to what they might like for Christmas, no matter if they ask for it.
2. Listen to the things they talk about.
This can be anything from a side comment they make or a tradition they talked about. My grandmother has told me a thousand times that she use to light candles around her house at Christmas time, but she can't do that anymore because she has to use oxygen when she's at home. This got me to thinking that she liked good smelling candles, and misses them because she can't have an open flame while she's on her oxygen. Listen to what your person talks about.
3. Take note of their interests
It's as simple as looking at the magazines they own, the way their house is decorated, or the things they own. My grandmother loves to decorate her house (despite that it usually takes twice as long, because she gets to sitting and looking at everything she finds). A good magazine to draw inspiration from is "Better Homes and Gardens," a magazine that I know for a fact that she likes to look at.
Simply, that is all you have to do to figure out what your person wants for Christmas. It isn't a long, drawn-out process of guessing and eliminating. Just notice the things they have and listen to the stories they tell. I decided this year that I am going to give her a candle wax warmer, which includes a one-year subscription to Better Homes and Gardens, and a few different kinds of wax scents for her to melt. It's not a candle, but it's close, and I do feel that she will appreciate it.
Merry Christmas, everyone, and I hope you can find that perfect gift for your stubborn person.
