Finals Week, As Told by Adele's 'Hello'

A lyrical adventure about a student's week of hell.

Finals Week, As Told by Adele's 'Hello'

The bags under your eyes are bigger than ever before. Your hair is unwashed. Your diet consists of all carbs and an unhealthy amount of caffeine. You're hungry, tired and exhausted. It's finals week, y'all.

Before you freak out, I suggest playing into my theory that Adele's hit "Hello" wasn't about a failed romance. Rather, the song was written regarding the struggles college students around the world face every end of term. Don't believe me? Just watch.

1. "I was wondering if after all these years you'd like to meet, to go over everything."

It's crunch time, and you just realized that you've only attended three of your Biology lectures this entire semester. You're probably trying to contact your prof ASAP to get that study guide or review lectures. Which, in that case, you show up during office hours only for your prof to say she's never seen you before in her life.

2. "They say that time's supposed to heal ya, but I ain't done much healing."

Weren't the previous rounds of finals like two weeks ago? I'm still really salty about it.

3. "I'm in California dreaming about who we used to be."

Spring break was like three weeks back. I'm not ready for this.

4. "When we were younger and free."

Remember when coloring in the lines was actually a grade? Or what about counting your ABCs? What happened to our liberation?

5. "I must have called a thousand times, to tell you I'm sorry."

By now you're calling your parents every day just to "catch up." You also send them an abundance of random "I love you" texts. It's just better you apologize before you get your transcript in the mail.

6. "I'm sorry for breaking your heart, but it don't matter, it clearly doesn't tear you apart anymore."

Your parents have been through this a few times before. They honestly just want you to get a degree so you don't have to move back in after college. Just do what it takes to pass, OK?

6. "Did you ever make it out of that town where nothing ever happened?"

You won't if you don't pass this exam.

7. "At least I can say that I've tried."

That's the main point. Bravo, kid. You gave it your best effort. But did you really?

There you have it. Adele is a lyrical god who fooled the entire population into thinking otherwise about her 2015 super-hit. Good luck with your finals coming up!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
