As finals week approaches, the moment of truth begins… You’re either going to do very well or do really bad. We all know that there’s really no in between in college when it comes down to grading, so for most of us, are finals really show what we learned or didn’t learn, but hopefully they show what we did learn. With that being said, life can get hectic, many of us are applying for internships (God save us all) Or applying for jobs, study abroad whatever. So during this final week everything really collides together and we begin a process what is called procrastination. Here are a few ways to stray away from procrastination and focus on finals.
- Occupy yourself: I cannot stress this enough; college students need to occupy themselves. You’re probably reading this and thinking… isn’t occupying yourself procrastinating? In theory, yes. But, in general no not really. See, you work your schedule around it you’ll spend your day doing both rather just stressing out and doing nothing but studying.
- Gym: Okay, so you know this fitness models on Instagram? Yeah? I do too. Now, I’m not saying that everyone should go to the gym like them or whatever, but going to the gym or just working out in general has been proven to help studying. That’s right 10-30 minutes a day provides students with the motivation to study, seriously.
- Create a To-do list: Creating a to do list is the best thing that you can do for yourself when it comes to studying. It literally gives you a sense of purpose and organization, much like you need to get the work done
- Set alarms: We have all had that one class every semester that we sleep through the alarm… Early or late, we all know that everyone’s taking naps that go on for so long. But, setting alarms during finals week is great for you, because this way at least you can get up and try and study for that bio final or whatever.
- Put things on a calendar: You know why a calendar was created? For humans to remember dates. Honestly, to its fundamentals, that’s why it was made. So you should too add events or dates or exams or whatever on your calendar, it’s easy, your phone has one in there.
- Study with friends: As you may know, studying can be boring. Extremely boring, seriously. But studying with friends will be fun.
- Reward yourself: Finish studying? Watch an episode of Netflix. There is a thing called over studying and studies show that over studying can cause students to do poorly, so please don’t over study. Reward yourself for studying.
- The magic Do Not Disturb: The answer to all procrastination, the do not disturb. When you’ve got your I phone please have it on. Friends/Parents/SHU emails, all can wait trust me
- Study before bed: I’m not saying to cram everything you’ve learned before you go to bed, but before you go to bed just have a little review for yourself. Let your mind retain it while you sleep, you’ll still remember it by the morning. Also, always remember to get the minimum 7-8 hours of sleep.
