I guess you could say that I am kind of like the college student version of a grandmother. I like to stay in with a cup of coffee and some Netflix rather than going out and partying. I prefer to go to bed early, and to me, a night playing board games with friends sounds a lot more appealing than a night out drinking. One thing that I didn't know I was missing out on, though, was being spontaneous. I tend to have my whole life planned out, and taking things day by day is totally not something I like to do, but when my friend told me there were Adam Lambert (my obsession) tickets for $6 online, I couldn't pass that up.
So my best friend and I decided to play the role of what people think college kids are like, and buy the tickets and go into NYC two days later. At first, I was so excited, and then I became petrified. We were driving into the city, a place I was unfamiliar with, and attempting to survive by ourselves. The whole idea was so foreign and crazy to me, I didn't even know how to cope. But as it got closer and my friend assured me she knew her way around the city (which she impressively did), I got more and more excited. The whole experience was absolutely amazing, and even though I had a fever right before we left, I wouldn't have changed a moment of it.
I definitely do not think that this is something that I am prepared to do all of the time now, but I'm glad I did it. If I could give any advice from my experience, I would say try it. Try being spontaneous and doing something out of your comfort zone because I guarantee, it is something that you will remember for a very long time. I would obviously advise to plan ahead a little bit and not go into it blind, but a little planning even when you're trying to be spontaneous can't hurt, right?
When the night was over, I was elated and I haven't stopped thinking or talking about it since. Look online for tickets to see your favorite artist and take a road trip to see them, or do something that you have always wanted to do but keep making excuses for. We are only this young for such a short period of time, so take advantage of being in college and having the freedom to be spontaneous, and have an experience that makes you feel like you should be in a movie.
Spontaneity is a fun getaway, not a lifestyle. So keep it safe, keep it fun, and keep it real.
