Oh, what a time to be alive. All of our favorite animated Disney classics are being made into live-action movies, and cell phones are actually getting people to go outside by letting us live one of our wildest childhood dreams: to become a Pokémon master. The long awaited smartphone app, Pokémon Go, has finally arrived and our nine-year-old selves are giddy with excitement.
Players from all over the world can now catch Pokémon in their own back yard. This is something we have been waiting for since Ash, Misty and Brock showed us how to be the best Pokémon trainers. Now, instead of having to use our imaginations and throwing plastic Pokéballs at each other, we can use our smartphones to catch Pokémon, build up our Pokédex and battle our strongest warriors to become a Pokémon master. In order to catch Pokémon, all you have to do is step outside and walk around. Of course you need supplies, so the game designers placed Pokéstops at certain places in almost every city for you to get Pokéballs and potions. You can even find Eggs that you incubate and hatch Pokémon by just walking around. You can also find gyms to battle your Pokémon and gain XP. If you want to find certain types of Pokémon, they can be found in corresponding spots in the world. For example, water type Pokémon can be found near oceans. If you used to play Pokémon on your Gameboy or your Nintendo DS, Pokémon Go is quite possibly a dream come true.
Once you get to level five, you are able to choose one of three teams that you want to battle for. Team Instinct is for those who want to train their Pokémon to be innately talented. Team Mystic is for those who use knowledge and remain calm to win their battles (Boo Team Mystic). Team Valor stands for strength and bravery. They focus on training and bonding with their Pokémon which is what makes them the best (Go Team Valor). Different gyms are owned by different teams, so make sure you go to a Team Mystic gym and show them who’s boss.
There are some people who have the misfortune of being really lame and thinking they are too old for Pokémon Go. I actually feel sorry for them because they don’t know how to get in touch with their childhood. And for those who have always thought Pokémon was stupid and continue to think it is stupid through this revolutionary time, let us be! The reason why the world is so obsessed with this game is because it is the epitome of nostalgia. All we wanted since we were little was to become Pokémon masters and now we have that chance. We have waited way too long for this but it is definitely worth the wait. To you Debbie Downers, step out of our way before we get our Charizards to use flamethrower on you. To my fellow Pokémon trainers, be safe and happy hunting.
