With the election of the century coming up, there are a few final attempts for people to sway other voters to their perspective – most of which have been unsuccessful. Even though I am too young to vote, I still believe that my opinion matters as a spokesperson of the next generation and in the process of finding my voice in politics, I found that I was not the only one who held an opinion.
When looking at the lineup, most citizens cannot help but cringe, with the way that I have described the process of voting as “picking the lesser of two evils.” Personally, I would not want to have someone who stands for nothing but himself and his money like Donald Trump. With the way that he approaches debates, social media and his campaigning tactics, none seem practical or professional. When a video surfaced from 2005 of Trump being extremely degrading towards women, I could no longer hold any respect for him, especially after he tried to defend himself by calling it “locker room talk.” The oval office is a place of democratic justice, not a locker room. My question is, how could any woman support someone who jokes about sexual harassment and abuse as though it is okay?
Hillary Clinton by no means is the best candidate we could have, but with her experience as the 67th United States Secretary of State, a New York state Senator for eight years and a First Lady, she has far more political experience and knows how the system functions. With all of the knowledge she has acquired about our country, why would we pass that up to have someone who in uninformed, against gender equality, against LGBTQA+ rights and will push our country’s progress back 50 years?
In conclusion, why would America want someone who cannot even run a business to run a country? When it comes to international affairs and domestic policies, Clinton excels in making our country seem professional and open to change, while Trump sees the United Sates as a place to create a new kind of dictatorship. So as voting finishes up, I would encourage fellow Americans to make the choice that is wise and considerate of the needs of our country rather than base their vote on the fact that he is a straight, white male.
