Fifty Shades of Grey: My Movie Review

I LOVED THE FIFY SHADES OF GREY MOVIE! There! I said it! I really, truly enjoyed it. I went into the theatre planning on leaving disappointed, but I wasn't! Look, this movie isn’t supposed to be an Oscar contender. It’s supposed to be a sexy novel-turned-movie, and that’s exactly what it was! There's a reason that it is the 4th largest R-rated movie debut in history, with over $80 million made in just 3 days.

The two biggest complaints from professional movie critics was that there was a lack of chemistry between Dakota Johnson (Anastasia Steele) and Jamie Dornan (Christian Grey) and that the characters spoke AT each other instead of TO each other. Well, to those movie critics I say: “WRONG!”

I disagreed with both of those critiques and here’s why:

First of all, I felt that the chemistry between Ana and Christian was palpable. I walked out of the theatre completely puzzled as to what movie those critics were watching when said that there was no chemistry between the two. They had to work with what they were given to keep the movie rated R, and they were successful. And secondly, even more so than the “lack of chemistry” BS, I disagree about the communication between the actors. Given the script and what they were allowed to say, they both did the best they could, and it paid off. The film even had a funny side! The intentional use of comedy did lighten the sexual tension, and gave this film a more light-hearted feel.

Now about the sex. The only thing I would change would to make sure Ana’s legs, and other body parts, were shaved the first time she sleeps with Christian. The sex was raunchy, like it was supposed to be, but some people are making a mountain out of a molehill. You knew what this movie was going to be about before you bought your ticket so you are not allowed to complain. It’s more than just a dominant and his submissive in a playroom. It's a love story among two people who should never end up together, but they do. Emotionally, the submissive will eventually become the dominant. (Stay tuned for movies 2 and 3…).

Also, was anyone else upset that Rita Ora was only in it for literally 45 seconds? And what about Ana getting a job at the publishing house?! That was book one, right...?

What surprised me the most, however, was that in interviews, Dakota Johnson is extremely shy and tends to not speak a lot. But in this film she was the complete opposite. She spit those lines out like a champ! The scene when she drunk calls Christian… Hey, we’ve all been there, girl!

Like I said before, I loved the film. I sat in bed last night and basically replayed the entire film in my head. Weird? Oh well. I definitely would see it again in the theatres and you can count on my buying it on DVD when it’s released.

As for Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed, it has been confirmed that they will also be turned into films. It’s rumored that Fifty Shades Darker is set to begin filming in June and will be set for release in March 2016. Let the countdown begin…

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
