The Little Black Statistic, Part 2

A young girl stuck in the South of Chicago just trying to make it out to the North, escaping her reality is her goal but maybe that isn't the worst part yet. Maybe who and what is to come is much worse. Now stuck drowning looking for the future.

"Why should I do that this man can pay my rent this month and feed my kids, this is chump change to him" he then pointed the gun at him rubbing his temple with the tip of the gun, still hot from the shot he had just made not too long ago. Nila told him she would make a deal with him that if he left him alone and found someone else she would willingly give him the money in her pocket from work as well, as well as get some from the frightened young man from the North side. He bolted with determination in each step as he soon became a distant memory. Nila knew after she said that she had made a deal with the devil, the son who must have been birthed from Ursula and Satan. He pleaded and thanked her as if she had saved his first-born son.

"I must know your name" she introduced herself as she ended it with a nice to meet you. He then introduced himself as Alan. They go on for lunch at a simple restaurant where they ate cold fries and talked so long that the milk she had gone to the store for had spoiled. He told her he was the same age as her 18 and attended a private school on the north side and that his father was a sheriff as his mom was a judge. They talked about everything from conspiracy theories to what made them who they are today. He offered her a ride back home in his all-black Bentley, as she entered, she indulged on organic grapes and sparkling water that tasted like Amphitrite had run her fingers through it.

She was humiliated to tell him where she lived as Nila was horrified he would judge or think of her as a peasant. At the end of the ride, he never thought second of it for he asked when he could see her next because after exploring her side of town he wanted to take her to the North side. This was everything she ever wished for plus some.

She arrived back home to a note on a can of pork and beans "goodnight princess I'm off to work, your siblings are asleep have a good day tomorrow" there was 9 of them in total but some were in foster care, others at her granny's and others who had died and took their last breaths on the streets of Chiraq. It was the 3rd night she ate the same thing but she would close her eyes and imagine it was tiramisu with a steak that cut like warm butter with lobster mashed potatoes, all things she never had and wasn't sure she would like but she always seen it on TV so she figured It must be pretty good.

She forced herself to sleep to get to the next day faster. She woke up, wore her favorite black skirt with sandals and a top she could afford from the thrift store. Nila walked out as Alan's personal driver opened the door "good morning Ms. Nila" he then closed the door. The drive to the unknown seemed like an eternity. It was so much different and everything she always hoped it would be. Beautiful stone houses, suburban families at parks, friendly dogs, and seemingly perfect cut grass. She entered what seemed like a palace, marble floors with beautiful brown granite counter tops and sliding doors that previewed the backyard.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
