The Carolinas are known for many things. Beautiful weather, wonderful food, historic locales, and (mostly) charming people. However, besides the occasional big musical guest in our major cities, we don't have much to look forward to in terms of music festivals. However, since 2012, the Carolina's have had their own rock festival. Known as Carolina Rebellion, the 3-day festival is held in Concord, NC at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Featuring a bevy of rock artists, the festival also hosts a variety of food trucks and merchant booths.
I've attended Carolina Rebellion for the past 2 years. It's held May 5-7, with a pre-concert for VIP members featuring local bands and a few other helpful discounts and vouchers. The first year, I was in a hotel room with 3 other friends, which made for interesting sleeping arrangements but was otherwise still a good situation. Last year, however, I went with my friend who I'll lovingly refer to as "The Giant". He has been my partner in the mosh pit for many years and happened to upgrade the tickets to the VIP experience, which allowed us to access the campgrounds bordering the festival grounds. While the first night was a bit of a rough start (always plan out your camping gear and check the weather, kids). the rest of the festival was AMAZING. We met and befriended some absolutely delightful people who we hope to camp and rock with for many years to come.
The amazing thing about Rebellion is that, within the festival grounds, politics don't exist. Everyone is there to enjoy the food, throw down to the music, and enjoy the experience. People can come from all walks of life and they're accepted into the fray and beautiful chaos that is Carolina Rebellion. This is an event that, if you're a native of the Carolinas and in touch with your rocker side, you MUST NOT MISS.
The line-up this year includes Soundgarden, A Perfect Circle, Mastodon, Dorothy, Def Leppard. Korn, The Pretty Reckless, Avenged Sevenfold, Seether, and MANY more.
Tickets are on-sale now.
Keep this festival on your to-attend lists, folks. It's always a great time, and an even better experience.
