I'm A Feminist And I Watch "The Bachelor"

We all have that guilty pleasure for something that does not quite make sense, and for me it is the television show "The Bachelor." The concept of one man dating over 20 women at the same time is disgusting to think about, but I cannot get enough of the show. I become awfully invested in the bachelor himself to the point where I believe that I know what is best for him, but I often question why I am so attached to a show that disagrees with what I believe in.

I hate the double standard of relationships between guys and girls. I do not agree that it is more acceptable for a guy to have multiple partners and get admired for it while a girl has to feel ashamed of her actions and have vulgar terms thrown at her. But essentially that is what "The Bachelor" is promoting, so I am torn between what I believe in and the entertainment of the show.

It is easy to love the show especially when the bachelor is such a good guy. This season is by far my favorite season because of the chivalry and respect displayed by bachelor Ben Higgins. He goes out of his way to reassure all of the women and you get a sense that he genuinely cares about them. Yes, I just said women, as in the plural tense. Do you see my struggle? He can offer so much to just one girl why does he have to date over 20 at the same time to prove that? How did this concept ever make sense to anyone? I know I am not the only one who disagrees with it because there are many people who do not watch and support the show, and I do not blame them.

I want to reach out and let all of Bachelor Nation know that it is totally fine to support the show. Being emotionally invested in someone else’s journey to find love is not an issue, and that is the way I choose to look at it. He may have to go through a lot of women to find his true love, but you can bet on me to live vicariously through every rose ceremony praying that my favorites get chosen.

Let me also just mention the hilarious drama that comes with the show. I blame all of the cat fights, drama queens, and crazy girls for keeping me so hooked. Ben, you are extremely nice to look at, but I needed to witness Lace and Olivia progressively lose their sanity. My favorite part so far was the fact that on the last episode Olivia was left stranded on a deserted island after not receiving the “two on one” date rose. I am actually very curious as to how long she was just hanging out there after the rose winner, Emily, and Ben flew away in a helicopter together.

Hopefully, Ben is able to find a lasting love from his experiences, and all the women are back to living normal lives. It is never easy having your heart broken on national television, but I wish nothing but the best for all of the people this season. God bless yourselves for going through something like this. I cannot wait for the next Monday evening to see what happens while I am surrounded by my best friends and a huge bottle of wine.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
