Feminism Will End The World

When braless women with hairy pits began talking, there was no stopping them.

Oh yes. It's happening. Hide your infant sons and fragile football players. A new era is rushing in; one in which estrogen triumphs over male-dominated testosterone fury and overly-aggressive, borderline over-compensating, yelling. Indeed, the age of feminism is drawing near, and it is sure to destroy the world as we know it. Cities will fall, famine will erupt and disease will spread faster than herpes in a fraternity. The dawn of feminism is nigh, and no rock will not be overturned, no sanctuary unburnt and no man safe in his oh-so-pretty masculinity.

But really. Feminism. Once upon a time, the sexiest revolution known to man, and woman, took place, the sexual revolution, as women flocked to the streets demanding childcare, workers rights and yes, even the radical idea of being able to vote. From this point onward, society has had a rather nasty taste in their mouths pertaining directly to the feminist movement. Perhaps it is the radical and provocative notion that my body is my own, or that women and men deserve equal opportunity in a workplace environment that has driven opposing forces to deem feminism as unnecessary and, frankly, an inconvenience.

I get it, free bleeding may not be your thing, and you may never see the value in going braless. Regardless, the feminist movement crucial to establishing equality across genders. Although different facets of feminism certainly exist, most will agree we want equality. My rights are not an inconvenience. Time after time again, I hear the argument that feminism is simply lazy and bored bitch women doing just that: bitching. I'm sorry, but I would love to reverse the notion that wearing a short skirt is me "asking for it." Pardon me for being the slightest bit angry.

I understand that not everyone will feel convicted enough to take the streets in protest or dedicate their life to the equality movement. This fact, however, does not create an excuse for complacency. Whether you realize it or not, the feminist movement is first comprised of human beings. Yes. The only thing we all have in common. Feminism is not made to destroy the human race but help it. It does not mean burning man, but burning bridges that keep an oppressive past alive.

So grow your armpit hair out or not, shave your head or don't, stay home with the kids or dominate Wall Street. Feminism is not this or that, it's both. It simply is two groups working together to create a world where equal opportunity and kindness thrive. If this destroys the world, then bring on the apocalypse. I'm ready.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
