Feminism Is Not About Hating Men
Odyssey

In today's modern society, feminism is viewed in such a terrible light. I don't think anything bothers me more than when a guy makes fun of feminism or degrades feminist women for standing up for the movement. Something I dislike significantly more than men degrading feminism is other women, who are not feminists, degrading the feminist movement.

Although it is somewhat discouraging and disheartening when people try to chip away at feminism, I strongly believe that we as a society have no real understanding of what true feminism is.

Feminism: the advocacy of women's rights on the grounds of political, social, and economic equality to men.

I would like to put a huge emphasis on one word: equality. Not superiority. Equality. That is so important when it comes to the fundamentals of feminism. There is nothing about feminism that points to hating men, or that men are not just as important to society as women are. The problem is that there are still people who believe women are only good for gender-specific roles. There are people who still believe women aren't capable of running a business or serving in the military, and more recently, worthy of being president. There are still people that don't see women as capable and valuable.

This couldn't be further from the truth. We are all alive because of the women in our lives! It takes two to tango, am I right? Humanity would cease to exist if women weren't as equally important as men. So why do we treat women as if they are items, invaluable unless their mouths are shut?

There are women around the world starting businesses, writing books, becoming professional athletes and bettering the lives of others. There are so many facets to each woman, and I think that's what makes us so amazing. Women have the ability to be tender and loving plus work hard and kick ass at the same time.

The reason I choose to support feminism is because I love myself, and I love the women around me. I think we are astonishing human beings. I mean this from the deepest part of my heart. I love to see other women succeed in the workplace or in their personal lives. There is something so special about being a woman.

It really saddens me to know that my fellow sisters in Christ are not being equally treated and appreciated. That isn't to take away from my respect and admiration for my brothers. We are all equally loved by the Creator. No one is superior in God's eyes.

But, women need to be valued. We need to be respected. We need to not be told our looks are what define us. We need to not be told to be careful not to get raped. It should not matter how full our breasts are or how large our butts are. We should not be scared to go out in public alone or terrified to be the only female in a room full of males. Our male counterparts should not be calling us whores and sluts for the way we choose to dress. We need to be treated like people because we hold the same weight as men. No more, no less.

The whole point is, women are people. That's what feminism is about.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
