I have always imagined that seeing snow for the first time would be something out of a movie. Picture this: Small snowflakes fall ever so perfectly onto the ground and everything around you is white and crisp. Pine trees everywhere and cars covered with snow.
This is how I believed this day was going to go down. I thought everyone was going to be so excited about playing in the snow, have a big snowball fight and then sit around a fire and drink hot chocolate. Well, I was wrong.
The only way to get my friends outside with me was after begging them for minutes on end. Even after we got outside, they would complain that they are too cold. What I wasn’t thinking about was that they have been doing this their entire life. They have lived in snow for the past 18 years and this is my first time. I am a little bit behind the average age for seeing snow.
Growing up in Florida, the coldest time of the year was the end of Fall, around this time and it gets to about 50 degrees at the absolute lowest. The coldness here in Clarion has been difficult to cope with, although once I get all bundled up, I am okay.
Playing in the snow was so much fun, although my time was limited. I learned how to perfectly pack a snowball and how to roll a snowman. I also made my first snow angel ever and it was prettier than I’ve ever seen. The first time I picked up snow, I made the mistake of not putting gloves on. This was a pain that I have never felt before, not being able to move my fingers was awful and I definitely learned my lesson.
Apparently I don’t know the difference between packing snow and frozen snow? Packing snow is good for snowballs, while frozen snow is good for sledding, skiing, and whatnot. I can’t wait to go sledding, that is something I have wanted to do for so long. Comparing snow skiing to water skiing, I think I’ll be pretty good at that too.
Everyone is telling me that I will hate the snow soon, sometime within the next few weeks. I don’t believe them at this time, although I am always ready for change and I can’t wait for the snow to come more often.
