"Today is finally the day," you think to yourself as you get prepared for one of the best days of your life. But how do you even begin to prepare for something so spectacular and so unique? Everyone experiences it differently. If you are like me, you experience a whole bundle of emotions. Starting with an overwhelming feeling of just pure happiness and ending the night looking your worst. When I go to a concert, I get very very worked up. Every song and every dance pushes me one step closer to tears. I always end up dancing my hardest and screaming the words to every song, especially if it is one of my favorite bands. But going to a concert is also fun because you get to meet a lot of cool people that share common interests with you.
Some of the most common thoughts that people experience during a concert are, “Am I actually here right now?” and “This cannot be real!” We all go through that. When I went to see The 1975, the whole time I just kept asking, “is this real?” It never feels real until it is over. I think we can all agree that when a concert ends, that is the worst feeling. The post-concert depression kicks in immediately and you wish that you could go back in time and start over.
Another common feeling to have during a concert is the feeling that you have to dance more than everyone around you. I don’t know about everyone else, but when I am at a concert I get a serious case of the jitters. I can not stand still. I start jumping around and screaming and throwing my arms around in the air. Nothing is more fun than dancing around at a concert with your friends without a care in the world.
Being at a concert makes you feel free and just gives you the sense that you can be yourself. I mean you are literally surrounded by people who have the same idol as you and who appreciate and love the band just as much as you do. It is incredible to be able to sing along to your favorite songs with a bunch of random people also singing those songs. The feeling is just indescribable. If I had to choose a few words to describe it, I would say that it feels like you are on top of the world. You get the feeling that nothing could ruin this moment and you feel swept up by the lyrics and the music and the way the band looks on stage. You get taken aback by the light show and the people running everything behind the scenes. It is just a feeling of gratitude and blessings.
The worst feeling you experience at a concert is sadness. When the band says their goodbyes and the whole stage goes black everything sinks in. The after-concert headache, how hungry you are, how bad you want to wait in the merch line, etc. … Everything hits at once and you cannot believe that the day you prepared for so long is over. But, no need to worry, there is always next time!
