I've been in the place you are in and if we're being completely honest, I feel like I am going through this phase all over again. The feeling that you're life is crumbling all around you and you can't find a way to get a firm grip on it and be in control once again. It's a horrible feeling, but just remember that feeling won't last forever.

I know, it's hard to accept the fact that you'll be able to get through whatever obstacle is in the way of your happiness and it may have gotten to the point where you feel hopeless and just want to give up on everything you have been working so hard towards. Nothing in this life is easy, and I think that as we grow up and mature more and more, this idea that life isn't easy is always thrown in our face in forms of different challenges and obstacles you have to overcome on a daily basis. You might think to yourself, "what is the point of working so hard if all of this bad comes with it?" Well, you have to remember that with the bad also comes the good. Your life will not continue to be in this hopeless state if you put all your energy and focus on to make sure you're on the right path.

Yes it is true, life will throw off your plans and maybe take you on a different path than you expected to take, but you are still in control of your own life and you have all of the power. You are either going to let the bad throw off everything you have worked so hard for or you're going to take all of the hardships and obstacles you have encountered to better yourself and make yourself stronger.

The key to making this all work is to surround yourself with a good support system. I tend to just isolate myself when I am feeling hopeless and it only makes the problem worse. You need to confide in certain people that you trust and let them know what is going on with you. If they truly care, they will listen and help you get through whatever it is you are currently going through. If talking about what you're feeling on an emotional level isn't your cup of tea, engulf yourself in things that make you happy. For me, writing makes me happy and is my escape. Putting my emotions onto paper so that I can read it back to myself is this great release. I am addressing how I am feeling about myself and it is this huge weight that is lifted off of my shoulders. Whatever it is that makes you your happiest, do it. Don't sit in your room and dwell on all of the bad, trust me it will only make things worse for you.

Everyone goes through these phases in life of hopelessness. It is nothing to be ashamed of, but it is your responsibility to make sure that you take care of yourself when you are dealing with such heavy emotions. No one but you knows what you are dealing with, so make sure that you make yourself a priority during these dark times. This time will pass, I can promise you that. Life is so much more than just the bad, never forget that.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
