Star Trek celebrated its 50th birthday on Thursday, Sept. 8. There has been an outpouring of love and appreciation for the show as a result of its 50th birthday. There has also been lots of new memorabilia released, new documentaries and more. There are all kinds of things that people enjoy about Star Trek and characters are one the major parts people love.

Star Trek's characters are unique and memorable. Their personalities tend to help with this fact because they're very significant to the series. Here is a list of my top favorites-- Engage!

7. Lieutenant Worf (TNG)

Worf being Klingon made him a super interesting character. After all the problems with the Klingons and Captain Kirk's dislike for them, it was cool seeing a Klingon be such a major character, especially since it was a bit after The Original Series. I also really loved Worf's personality and I was happy he stuck around for awhile.

6. Leonard "Bones" McCoy (TOS)

I absolutely love Bones; he's a brilliant doctor with the funniest of personalities. His catch phrase always makes me laugh. One of my favorite things about The Original Series was the friendship between Bones and Kirk. I love how often they have each other's backs and I really enjoy that Bones is usually part of the landing party. Talk about a battlefield doctor.

5. Lieutenant Nyota Uhura (TOS)

Both Nichelle Nichols's original version and Zoe Saldana's version of Ms. Nyota Uhura are amazing. I love Uhura because she's incredibly smart and extremely strong. Given the time The Original Series came out makes me appreciate her character all the more. I don't think strong female leads were as common back in the 1960s. In the newer movies today, Uhura is even stronger and smarter. She adds her own amount of spice to the mix, especially with her banter with Captain Kirk.

4. Captain Jean-Luc Picard (TNG)

Captain Jean-Luc Piccard was an awesome Captain, especially coming after Captain Kirk. Piccard had traits that were similar to Kirk but he's mostly different. I always found him to be brave and fearless as a captain, which was something I loved about him. Some of my favorite moments of his are when he's trying his best not to get annoyed when interacting with Dr. Crusher's son, Wesley.

3. Lieutenant-Commander Data (TNG)

I love Data. Whenever I watch "The Next Generation", he cracks me up. He's similar to my favorite character, which makes me love him more. Data is probably one of the most talented androids around; he has many skills and is a clear representation of what technology can lead to. He may not fully understand human behavior but he tries as his best!

2. Captain James T. Kirk (TOS)

I love Captain Kirk. His loyalty and love for his crew is one of his most admirable traits. There wasn't anything he wouldn't do for his crew. Plus, he liked to make his own rules which meant he tried everything, even if he was told no and most of the time it worked out for him. I love both William Shatner and Chris Pine's portrayal of him, each are unique in their own way.

1. Mr. Spock (TOS)

I love Spock the most out of all of the characters. The fact that he is half-human, half-Vulcan is very, very interesting to me. Especially since the two sides are often at war with each other. I also love how logical he is; it's so funny when he can't compute something based on emotions. Something else I love about Spock is his relationship with Kirk and McCoy. Kirk and Spock are such close friends and it's interesting to watch since he's spent so much time repressing his emotional urges. His banter with McCoy is always funny to watch, especially since there's been plenty of times where he outsmarted McCoy. Those three are a great group.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
