As a college student or young adult, it can be difficult finding makeup that works, doesn’t make you breakout, and actually looks good. I personally purchase makeup from my fair share of selections such as Nordstrom, Mac, Sephora, CVS, and Walgreens. Here are a few must-have items for everyday makeup. I go to CVS the most out of all drugstores because I find more of a variety there, and there's usually a CVS close to everyone now.
My everyday mascara, that I use literally 24/7 is the Maybelline Lash Sensational “Blackest Black” from CVS. It’s usually $8.99, but sometimes you can get it for cheaper with Extrabucks or sales. My sister showed me this mascara, and she was not kidding when she said it makes your lashes both long and voluminous. I stick to this mascara because it has the best results I’ve seen, compared to high-end brands that can range from $21-$40.
Concealer is the life-saving product when it comes to tiredness, breakouts, or redness. Every now and then I will get some acne and the Maybelline Fit Me Concealer really makes a difference. At CVS right now, it’s $7.49, but can also be purchased at Walgreens and other drug stores. I also use this product for dark circles under my eyes after a late night or when I’m feeling extra tired and need to brighten up my under eye area. It provides both coverage and comfort. It’s not too thick, but provides full coverage.
Another product I use every day is a beauty blender. I do not purchase the real, $20 beauty blender, because I see no point in purchasing a sponge that’s $20, so I’ll buy one from CVS or Walgreens. Depending on how many comes in a pack, or which store, the price may vary. This product above is a duo pack that sells for $9.99 at CVS.
Eyeliner and wings definitely need to be sharp and even when it comes to perfecting a makeup look. Of course, wings aren’t always going to be exactly even, but we can try. After years of trying to perfect the perfect wing, I have stuck to the Maybelline Line Stiletto Ultimate Precision Liquid Liner. It is pretty simple to use, once you get the hang of liquid liner and a thin brush. It’s easy to take on and off, and looks good.
As for foundation, I have extremely sensitive skin, and break out easily, so I purchase my foundation from Sephora. It’s called Makeup Forever Foundation, and is $43. That’s the most expensive thing I buy when it comes to makeup. However, if you have normal reactions to makeup and non-sensitive skin, there are a few foundations that are nice and provide different amounts of coverage. I do, however, sometimes wear translucent powder. I’ve tried the Elf High Definition Powder in the color “Sheer.” It can top off a foundation with more of a matte look. It’s $6.00 at CVS, but I’ve also bought it from Target. Elf is a great line because they have such a variety of eyeshadows, brushes, face makeup, and more. The best part about Elf is how affordable it is.
Yes, another Maybelline product. This eyeliner called, the Maybelline Define-A-Liner Mechanical Eyeliner, is $6.29 at CVS. You can also find it usually at Target, Safeway, Rite Aid, and Walgreens. I use this eyeliner for my inner eye duct, or waterline on the bottom. I usually use this if it’s night time or if I have an event because it really does add strong, black, outline to your bottom lash line.
To remove my makeup, before I wash my face with a face wash, (I use Cetaphil because of my sensitive skin), I use Simple Wipes. I always buy them from CVS or Target. At CVS they’re about $6.79 per pack, but CVS and Target will usually sell packs of two for about $10. They really make taking makeup off easier, and my mom, sister, and I all use them every day. I highly recommend them to use before you wash your face, to prevent looking like a raccoon after washing your eyes with only a face wash. Simple Wipes will prepare your face for a face wash and remove your makeup in a gentle, clean way.
