What Your Favorite Bar In St. Louis Says About You

St. Louis has many different options, but SLU students usually flock to the same bars every week. Just like your signature drink, your favorite bar says a lot about your personality. Do you prefer the laid back feel of Humphrey's or dancing on Grizz's pole to Ke$ha?

Missouri Bar and Grille, "Mo Bar"

Your preferred night out includes decking out in denim or eighties attire. Trying to get on a bus to Mo Bar is like the Hunger Games, and the girl to guy ratio is roughly 35 girls to one guy. This doesn't phase you because your costumes on point and you are with 20 of your best friends.

Bobby's Place

Going to Bobby's before midnight is unheard of. You probably just left Dubs and stumbled down Wash Ave to Bobby's Place. The beer pong tables bring you back to your junior year of high school days. "Trap Queen" comes on the speaker and you're sold. You live for the 15 minutes of fame when the bartender asks you to dance on the bar.

Humphrey's

Wednesday is your favorite night of the week. What you save on penny pitchers, you end up spending on Pickleman's barbecue chicken pizza later that night. Humphrey's is the classic college bar where it is quiet enough to hear people to talk to you, and the lighting is a little too bright to function. Given the chance, Tommy Boy would thrive at Humphs.

Diablitos

You are either a basketball player or there for the salsa bar. I'm not judging because the mango salsa is amazing. Everyone in the village is annoyed with you because they can hear that song from the Sandlot, "Tequila Song,"blaring through their apartment. You love the two-minute walk from Gries, but still wouldn't turn down a SLU ride in the winter months.

Library Annex

Contrary to the name, your favorite bar is not located in Pius. The Library Annex, better known as the Lannex, is in walking distance of campus. The ambiance and dance floor is similar to the Roxbury. Your ideal night out includes sipping on a Billy Bucket and dancing with random people from UMSL.

The Great Grizzly Bear, "Grizz"

Grizz is there for you when you need it most. Grizz is waiting with open arms on the first Thursday after dry recruitment or when you're lost in the streets at Mardi Gras. Kevin doesn't need to check your ID anymore because you are on a first name basis. It's all fun and games until the lights flash on..... and everyone sees you dancing with that tragic kid from your history class.

Dubliner

A night out at Dubs is always worth the hassle of calling a cab or making one of your friends drive you to Wash Ave. You thrive on the second floor of Dubs and talking to everyone you know. Your ideal night out includes a live band and Long Island ice teas. You always manage to get on stage and almost get your hands on the mic..... until suddenly everyone looks at you like you're Kanye at the VMAs.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

1. People assume you are mad all of the time.

2. Ten out of ten times you will give off an intimidating impression to others.

3. People do not acknowledge your feelings because you "do not have any."

4. Constantly being exhausted from trying to smile and not look like a witch.

5. And on the rare occasion your facial expressions show how happy you are, your friends think you are going crazy.

6. Each of your friends has said "I thought you were so mean when I first met you" at some point.

7. Then they follow that by saying "you are just hard to read."

8. So naturally if people do not know you they just assume you are a snob.

9. And when you are actually mad, your facial expressions are horrifying.

10. In the end you always look like you are judging people, when in reality people are ALWAYS judging you.
