I could not image the world without music. Music can affect your mood, open up areas of discussion, and can even start or highlight social movements. Whether I am exercising with earbuds in, hearing a song play over Sephora's speakers, or hanging out with friends, there is not a day that goes by where music is not in my life.
While I no longer have an cd collection in my room anymore, I do have a lot of albums in my phone. Here are my favorite albums of 2016 so far.
Disclaimer: I have not ranked the albums in any particular order
1. "Death of a Bachelor," Panic! at the Disco
Death of a Bachelor is the fifth album released by the now solo artist Brendon Urie on January 15th, 2016. With eleven tracks, this is a good album. My favorite songs off Bachelor are "Victorious", "Don't Threaten Me With A Good Time", "Emperor's New Clothes", and "LA Devotee".
2. "Bloom," Rüfüs du Sol
Simply known as Rüfüs, the Australian Alternative Dance group released their thirteen track Sophmore Album on January 22, 2016. I was introduced to Rüfüs du Sol by listening to their track "Sundream" from their 2014 album Atlas. My favorite songs from Bloom are "You Were Right", "Like an Animal", "Brighter" and "Lose My Head".
3. "Lemonade," Beyoncé
Out of all my favorites this year, Beyoncé's sixth studio album (and the HBO showing of the visual album), has to be my ultimate favorite. Released on April 23, 2016 with twelve tracks + plus the HBO documentary, Lemonade gives us an album on heartbreak, relationships, forgiveness and black feminism. I love this album so much that I have seven favorite tracks. My favorite out of those seven are "Don't Hurt Yourself", "Freedom", "Daddy Lessons", and "Hold Up"
4. "Coloring Book," Chance the Rapper
After waiting three years for this highly anticipated album that followed up to his 2013 album Acid Rap, Chance the Rapper released Coloring Book on May 12th, 2016. It has recently topped the Billboard 200 chart at No. 8. My favorite tracks off this album are "All We Got", "Blessings" Feat. Ty Dolla Sign, and "All Night" Feat. Knox Fortune.
5. "The Colour in Anything," James Blake
The Colour in Anything is Jame Blake's junior release that follows up to his 2013 album Overgrown. Released on May 6th, 2016 and clocked at 76 minutes long, this album is less upbeat than my other favorites but just as good. My favorites from this album are "Love in Whatever Way", and "Timeless".
Yes, I know it is not Christmas or even the Fourth of July. I also know that this list will change over the last seven months of the year, I even have two honorable mentions: Drake's "Views" and Kanye West's "The Life of Pablo."
What are your favorite albums of the year so far?
