The 20th century was an era full of world-changing technological advancements, breakthroughs in the music industry and some pretty terrible fashion trends. Many fashion trends from the late 20th century are making their way into the 2010s, like high-waisted shorts, overalls, and Birkenstocks. Most of the fashion that has made a comeback from that time hasn’t been all that bad. There are some trends, however, that weren’t even that cool when they were in their prime. We all hope these NEVER make a comeback.
1. Big hair.
1987. Apparently it was cool to make your head look double its size.
2. '80s workout attire.
1980s. Yes, it can always be fun dressing up like an '80s workout instructor for Halloween, but to actually work out and break a sweat in this? I doubt it. That looks very impractical and uncomfortable, not to mention hard on the eyes.
3. Mullets.
1987. The "business in the front, party in the back" 'do was never a good look, and it never will be.
4. Men's short shorts.
1970-80s. No one wants to see that. Ever again.
5. Ruffled dresses.
1981. One of the worst trends in my opinion. Sorry Mom, but I especially hope this one never comes back!
6. Brightly colored eye shadow.
1980s. Sorry, Madonna, but that is not a good look, even for you.
7. Puffy sleeves.
1989. Uncomfortable, taffeta, and puffy. Three words every woman dreads.
8. Printed parachute pants.
1890s. Why were these ever a thing? They do nothing to compliment the wearer, and the prints are usually always pretty awful. Let's leave these in the '80s please.
9. Shoulder pads.
1990. What was their purpose?! Surely not to look cute, because if that were the case, they failed.
10. Jumpsuits for men.
1970s. Stylish from head to toe...why, though?
11. These pants.
The print. The pockets that are on your back more than your butt. The fact that they are about two inches short from touching your bra. Nothing about these pants is OK.
Most of these trends are pretty self-explanatory in terms of why they should never, ever come back, but you never know. This is my way of telling the world not to let their judgement get clouded -- these fashion trends will always be ugly. Oh, and shout-out to my parents for letting me use pictures of them for this! (I still love you even though some of your past fashion choices were awful.)
