Growing up all the time I used to see my dad walk into Macy’s or Dillard’s and I would always wonder why people would want the crazy stuff people like Gianni Versace or Donna Karen were making in the late 90’s and early 2000’s, But now growing up in this day and age and being influenced by Hip Hop Culture, the new wave in fashion. Most of the fashion is street fashion mixed with a little bit of couture and not a lot of people have a grasp on this but a lot of people coming up in the game or have been around for the past five years like Ian Connor, John Ross, Virgil Abloh, Kanye West (obviously), and even people like Bloody Osiris, Lukka Sabbat, and one of my personal favorites Matthew Williams. I don’t call myself a hype beast but here are some of the hottest brands and pieces that I think you need to have in your arsenal for the holidays and more importantly to head into 2018 with.
Off White Belts and Bags
Now I may be a little bias towards off-white because I really respect what Virgil has done to the brand in the past two years but at the same time it's amazing what he can do with just straps that are used when moving into a house. The belts remind me of when Hollister used to sell the belts that the end strap used to hang just a little but now Virgil has taken that and put what I call “fashion flair” on it and made the strap so long that it's not annoying but draws your eye. No matter where you are on the street this belt will catch someone’s eye. They come out in many colors like white, blue, red, yellow, and orange and he just dropped the “Industrial Belt” which is red, white, and blue, and looks pretty awesome. For the females, the “Binder Clip” bags are a definite must-have. They’re handmade in Italy and have the same strap like the belts but come in many different colors like Salmon, Olive Green, and of course white and black. And fun fact Beyoncé absolutely loves them so in my mind that means every girl will love them too. Off White has taken off like a rocket and I don’t think they will slow down anytime soon.
Kid Super
After reading an article on Highsnobiety I absolutely fell in love with this brand for many reasons. Their head creative is all about his brand and actually tried to sue Atlantic Records claiming they stole one of his ideas for AceBoogieWitDaHoodie’s “Drowning” music video but besides that, the guy has some crazy clothes that are perfect in anyone’s arsenal. KidSuper has just gotten back from Japan with a new wave of clothes that I feel are absolutely going to take over. They’ve got it all from Totes that the clip comes off and become belts to a soccer jersey and shorts combo
that’s absolutely out of control. His color choice is awesome from the red white and blue to the seafoam green and perfect blue that is sure to turn heads. My favorite part is how he uses the pinstripes and stitching on most of the clothes that I’ve really never seen before. Check out his IG for more @KidSuper, you won't be disappointed.
Dertbag
It was my sophomore year of college and I was going to school in Upstate New York when I met a kid from Connecticut who I really owe for me getting back into fashion. His name is Isaac Miranda and one day I asked him where he was getting all of these dope shirts with “Dertbag” on it from and he told me about this brand from Norwalk, CT that he swore was about to take off and how he had nothing in his closet but that and no lie everything he pulled out was fire. He also wasn’t wrong about the brand blowing up because literally a year after that Kanye was wearing a one of a kind barbed wire, sheep skinned, turtleneck that pushes the brand to the front of the fashion world. I even saw Earl Sweatshirt rocking the “Nafuckit” t-shirt, the play on “Nantucket” and one of my favorite rappers Robb Banks wears it constantly. The pieces they come out with are most of the times just Simple but the placement and art pieces that come with it are awesome. They only have one shop in Bridgeport but do a great job of online orders so and easy checkout online.
GORE-TEX X Supreme X North Face X Palace
So Gore-Tex does a lot of brands but I think the best one yet was back in 2016 when they did the collab with North Face and Supreme and made the full sweats and jackets. It was absolutely unbelievable and what I call the Ronald McDonalds fit was to be the best one. They’re perfect for the season being super weather wicking but you also can’t forget about the Palace drop this Friday. They’re dropping four dope jackets colored blue, orange, purple, and black. A definite looker in any season.
Christian Dior
My boy Mike Desuoto gifted me a pair of Christian Dior Sweats and from then I really looked into them a lot more and I feel like they are one of those brands that will just never die because the vision Dior has is absolutely timeless. My favorite new part of this vision is the snow/ski boots they dropped. The last time I think I
saw someone wearing snow boots was my senior year of high school but I think they're about to make a serious comeback. Watch out for them.
