The jury is out and the Marvel Cinematic Universe has churned out a major flop.
According to recent critic reviews, the newest marvel adaptations fails across the board in terms of nearly every potion of its production. It registers very negatively in terms of directing, casting, writing, cinematography and the overall story itself.
I didn’t personally think it was possible to do worse than the previous Fantastic Four franchise from the mid-2000's. The casting itself was brought into controversy when it was revealed that Michael B. Jordan, an African American actor was cast to play the Human Torch who was previously a Caucasian character. I personally did not object to this choice, I thought it may be a fresh perspective to the character and I assumed Jordan would tackle the job stupendously having heard of this performance in the film Fruitvale Station. However, his interpretation did not hit the mark, there were moments where he misinforms the cast in terms of the plot and of his own character and his portrayal suffers greatly as a result. The same goes for the remaining members of the cast.
Furthermore, the directing is flat out horrendous. So many scenes were filmed incorrectly, the mistakes were laughable. The tone of Marvel films as I feel have always been a kind of dark of comedy mixed in it with delicate tragedy. But the main point has always been the story. How compelling is it? How rich is it? How well do the actors fit the characters that in turn fit the story itself? Fantastic Four fails on all accounts in this respect. It is an uncompelling story mixed in with fruitless characters and entirely basic portrayals on behalf of the actors themselves.
The comic book lovers are in upheaval they are declaring that Marvel has ruined characters that they have loved since childhood and I completely agree. Put this film at the bottom of your list. In all seriousness you are better of waiting for the DVD or else watching the pirated version online which let's face it, we all do anyway haha.
The movie is projected to be one of the lowest grossing films of the year with domestic profits dropped over 60% from its first week to its second. And I’m sure it will be a shoe in for the Golden Rasberry Wards this year.
