The iconic tourist bag that simply sparked the 80s-90s, and are still to some a style that never goes out. This bum bag, fanny pack, it’s a familiar bag small enough to wrap around your waist with adjustable straps, that fit small necessities that would be carried in a purse, bag, pockets.

Not a First ‘Fan’ of the ‘Fanny Pack’

For me at first was just an “uncool” thing, a style that now is slightly embarrassing.

I often even questioned: ‘why have something around your waist if I can just put it in my pocket or not carry it at all?’

Yet, the functionality of it changed my perspective on this handy pocket. No longer did I fear losing my wallet or phone in my pocket or leaving it in a bag if I had the fanny pack attached to me. I can now enjoy my entire day at an amusement park without the thought of losing or forgetting something (and yes, it could fit on those rollercoaster rides with ease).

Unzipping a part of History

Fanny packs go by several names including the “bum bag, buffalo pouch, belt pack, and, most creatively, the ‘belted satchel,’ by clothing designer Diane Von Furstenberg.” The term ‘fanny pack’ was depicted from the way that it was worn which was “around the waist in the back above the rear.”(https://www.leaf.tv/articles/history-of-the-fanny-pack/)

Although it was a part of the 80s-90s fashion, dates its origins to 15th century France, where it was considered a “small bag that hung from a belt called a chatelaine.” (https://amuse-i-d.vice.com/a-brief-history-of-the-fannypack/)

Since then they fanny packs mocked by some, and worn by others have been iconic as being the simple bag that keeps everything at hand. It’s also been worn as the actual pack being in the front rather than the back, and also slung over your shoulder.

Finding the Perfect Fit

Fanny packs come in all styles and colors to match with possibly any outfit one can wear. They are also easily, such as looking them up on Amazon.com. Fanny packs have then remade themselves to include water cup holders and a running belt like style as well. Celebrities can be seen wearing fanny packs as well such as Rihanna, Madonna and Matthew McConaughey have worn fanny packs.

Surely, when some think “fanny packs” they think the dad wearing it on his tours to Disney world (or insert an amusement park), but we adapted that term to those particular instances and we shouldn’t necessarily associate fanny packs with only a “dad” style. Everyone can rock a “fanny pack” including my friend who’s goal (and my inspiration to write an article about this) is to get one that comes with a cup holder.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
