My favorite family traditions during the holidays

Family Traditions + Christmas= The Best

The holidays are my favorite. There's good food, adorable decorations, snow, and more. I especially love Christmas because of all the family traditions that I have. In spirit of Christmas right around the corner, I wanted to share some of my favorite family traditions.

Every year during opening hunting weekend the men go hunting and the rest of us turn my grandmas kitchen into a cookie factory and start decorating cookies by the dozen. It’s way before the holidays but it is one of my favorite traditions because It gets me in the Christmas spirit.

Since before I can remember my siblings and I went to my grandparents house on a Friday night. we would go out to dinner watch a christmas movie and sleepover. In the morning we would make gingerbread houses together. I remember putting so much thought into how I wanted my house to look. I also remember sneaking frosting and candy which lead to a sugar coma :)

My family owns land up north and we have christmas trees on that land. Every year we go as a family and pick out our christmas tree together. We cut it down, bring it home, and decorate it. Decorating the christmas tree is my favorite tradition because its so magical. Seeing the lights and having up memorable ornaments as family.

Another one of my favorite traditions is Christmas eve mass. My grandparents always get there at least an hour early to save our pew. The family takes up an entire pew which is always fun. We get dressed up in our holiday best and get together to celebrate the true meaning of christmas. My favorite part is singing Silent Night. The song itself tends to give me goosebumps. However, in Church we turn all the lights off, light candles and sing it acapella. Its so magical and just truly amazing.

Lastly, Christmas morning is a tradition that everyone has. Waking up in the morning running downstairs to see what Santa brought. Its fun to open gifts and see the pure joy on everyones faces. After all the gifts have been open and wrapping paper fills the floor, My mom makes a christmas morning breakfast spread. Of course this includes her famous breakfast pizza. My family is so important to me and I love our christmas traditions. What are some of your favorite family traditions?

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
