There's a lot that runs in a family. Dad's nose, Mom's eyes, -even a dry sense of humor. It's not just the physical characteristics that are carried down the line. Lust for a life of concert halls and touring is passed down from generation to generation, resulting in a slew of rockstars and their musically inclined offspring. Some of the greats proved to be excellent role models for their children who followed in their parents' famous footsteps.
1. Miley and Billy Ray Cyrus
Genres aren't a number one concern for this family. During the peak of his career, Billy Ray Cyrus was one of the most famous country singer/songwriters in the country- his most famous track, "Achy Breaky Heart," remained number 1 on the charts for 19 consecutive weeks and was translated into 100 different languages. His daughter, starting in country music, has seemed to find her niche in pop music. Miley's single "Wrecking Ball", from her first album under her new image (Bangerz) was her first song ever to top the Hot 100 chart. Despite the fact that they didn't follow the same career path to a T, it's probable that Billy Ray's stardom had an influence on Miley's career.
2. Joey Armstrong and Jakob Danger, children of Billie Joe Armstrong
If your dad is the front man of the iconic punk rock band, Green Day, you're no stranger to the life of a rock star. Billie Joe has not one, but two musically inclined offspring. The Armstrong's youngest son, Jakob Danger (right), started his career in the alternative rock genre, releasing his first solo work online in 2015. The self-titled EP has been the only release from the youngest to date, but it's clear from his musical influences (The Strokes and Beach Fossils) that Jakob won't be following quite the same path as his father. However the oldest son, Joey (left), is a different story. A name isn't the only thing that this father and son share. The eldest is the drummer of up-and-coming alternative punk band SWMRS. It's safe to say that these two punk rock kids will be making waves in the music world.
3. Zoe and Lenny Kravitz
Like father, like daughter. These musicians have stretched their talents over a wide array of genres, accumulating an eclectic discography and sound. Lenny has been known for his "retro" style that influences all of his productions, whether it be jazz, rock, or even psychedelic pop. Zoe has kept her music mostly in the alternative genres, mainly a sound that's a psychedelic pop and techno hybrid. One thing these two musicians have in common is the fact that their not afraid to step out of they're comfort zone- or genre- and experiment with their craft.
4. Jeff and Tim Buckley
Opposite of the previous parent-child pairing, this is a case where the child has directly followed their parent's footsteps. Though Tim Buckley's music style changed throughout his career, he focused mainly on American folk music, trying to evolve "voice" as an instrument. Unfortunately, Tim didn't reach mainstream commercial success in his lifetime, but his legacy did live on in his musically inclined son, Jeff. Heir to the Buckley name, Jeff also found his talents were in the folk genre. Jeff reached stardom much more than his father and is still considered to be one of the greatest musicians to produce music.
5. Jakob and Bob Dylan
The last, and certainly not the least. By creating countless albums and being such a large presence in the music industry, folk singer-songwriter Bob Dylan has been considered to be on of the most influential musicians and pop culture icons in the past five decades. His son, Jakob, also made a pretty big splash in the music world. Like his father, Jakob is a singer-songwriter as well, his claim to fame being the start of the rock band, The Wallflowers. Since 1992, the band has released six studio albums, which earned them a pretty big following in the music industry.
Hair color isn't the only thing that's passed on from parent to child. Growing up around a life of fame and music only prompted these rockstars' kids to follow in their parents' musical footsteps. Sometimes the kids' fame even surpassed their parents'.
