One day it's 70 degrees, the next its 40 and hailing. You could blame it on the bipolar Michigan weather, but this year I don't think that even begins to cover it.
Fall has barely even started as we creep into mid October and the temperatures are already bouncing around with no concern for the rest of us trying to survive this crazy climate, which begs the question: is it fall yet?
Technically yes, it has been fall since it "started" on September 23, but temperature wise, I must ask again, is it really fall? Personally I don't really think so. I think for this year, this season is just going to be an awkward couple of weeks and then it will turn into winter and freezing temperatures, which isn't something I'm looking forward considering it has been argued that this winter will be even worse than the last.
I love fall. It relates to football (and more importantly tailgates), hayrides, the end of mosquitoes and beautiful fall colors. This is why I'm concerned fall is going to go by to quick this year.
Since the temperatures have jumped around so much like popcorn popping in a pan, it essentially confuses the trees, which is why some have already turned color and began to shed their leaves while others are still pretty much green. To me, the colorful trees are a staple in the beautiful fall atmosphere and when they vary so much it ruins it somewhat.
Another problem with the varying temperatures is that it takes away some of the best things to wear in fall. If its 65 degrees out, boots, sweaters and corduroys aren't an option. This leads to every fraternity man's nightmare. Our favorite black vests have to be put away for another day, and we all know how much we treasure our vest this time of year.
Some people may be holding onto these last glimpses of summer, but I think that summer needs to give way already so that we can have a long fall. We need a good month or so of crisp, low 50 days that help ease us into the long, cold winter. And I say long, cold winter because like I said before, we'll most likely have a repeat of last years long, cold and snowy winter. At least some snowdays might be in our near future.
I swear I'm not trying to be depressing; I just want fall to happen faster and stay longer, and I think that's a pretty fair thing to ask for. I mean, an excuse to drink apple cider and Captain only works for one season and I'd like that to last as long as it possibly can.
