Fall Is Life: Why Autumn Is The Most Exhilarating Season

It has nothing to do with pumpkin spice lattes, I promise.

Fall Is Life: Why Autumn Is The Most Exhilarating Season
Alisha Tousignant

The first morning that you are greeted by a crisp, light, breeze when you exit your home--you know that it has begun. A gentile gust of wind reveals the sound of dry leaves that have started their journey through oranges, reds, yellows, and purples. You take a deep, fulfilling, breath and savor the pureness of the air that once felt humid. Autumn has arrived.

Fall. Is. So. Exciting. Here's why:

1. Fall Outfits

Who doesn't adore a pretty sweater with colorful corduroys and boots?! Fall is the time to wear cute skirts, woolly socks, and intricate scarves. Light jackets and parkas never disappoint. Mittens. Hats. The sensation of being both cozy and trendy never goes out of style.

2. The Colors

Can we have a maroon appreciation day? This fall color looks good on everything. Blankets. Scarves. Headbands. Especially... leaves. If you've never experienced golden sunlight gingerly illuminating a tree decorated in leaves colored by mother nature's maroon crayon, I am sorry.

3. The Holidays

Halloween isn't the best thing since sliced bread just because it is the one day of the year you can dress up as your alter ego, but rather, for it's whimsical nature. Carving pumpkins in the most intricate of ways, spooky stories, crafts, and the Disney movies all play a crucial part in making Halloween the holiday that it is. When I was little, I collected Halloween books and put them on display for the entire month of October in my room, which always brings happy memories around this time of year. My mom and I made our own scarecrow. She baked and the house always smelled like pumpkin bread. My dad and I would roast pumpkin seeds. We all have those little memories from childhood during Autumn that makes it such a fun season, even years after we have surpassed the elementary school Halloween parades. Most importantly, using our imaginations shamelessly during this time of year is super liberating and I can't wait for Halloween to be here.

I have to pay a tribute to Thanksgiving. What would fall be without demonstrating gratitude for what we have been blessed with? Thanksgiving is such a warm time filled with delicious indulgences. Happy fall, people.

4. The Activities

They are just so fun. A mini list of my favorite: Apple picking, pumpkin carving, pumpkin picking, roasting pumpkin seeds, corn mazes, haunted walks, haunted houses, crafts, scary movie marathons, costume parties, football games. You get the point. Is it too early to watch Halloweentown?

5. The Food

Apple and pumpkin flavored everything. Apple pies, pumpkin muffins, apple cider, APPLE CIDER DOUGHNUTS, pumpkin bread, caramel apples, the list goes on and on. The only thing better than eating these treats is when they are made with love by you and your family. <3

I think that we can unanimously agree that FALL IS LIFE! Need I say more?

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
