Makeup can be traced back to ancient times being used by both men and women alike. Ok, so there are a lot of girls who like to wear makeup and I am here to set the records straight for guys everywhere. Fellas, I hate to break it to you, but many of the reasons we wear makeup is not for you. Let's just call it our own personal warpaint. Here are a couple of reasons that I personally like to wear it.
1. It makes me feel confident.
I don't know about you, but when I have spent the past hour beating my face until it is perfection and my winged eyeliner is so sharp I could cut someone, I feel pretty dang amazing about myself. Who knows, maybe I will see a cute guy and he will appreciate the fact that I look good, but let's face it, they don't know any of the things that I just went through to make my face look like that. I have seen countless tweets of guys going, "wow this celeb on the cover of a magazine looks so good without makeup". Um...hello, do guys really believe that the editors of a magazine would let them on the cover without makeup? Yep, even the natural look comes with about 15 products attached to it. But that isn't to knock down the magazine companies. I can admire the natural look models or the models with the full on face. They all look confident because they did not sit in hair and makeup for countless hours to not feel amazing about how they look.
2. I feel a tie to history.
Knowing that makeup has been used for so long makes me feel like a part of the past in more ways than one. First, when I put on my winged eyeliner or my foundation, I am channeling the Egyptians who literally created the wing and cat eye. Or channeling the Grecians who added ox fur to their eyebrows to make sure that they were on fleek. All of the processes that we women use today to make sure that we look our best have been perfected over time and continue to change. That is how I also feel like a part of the past. In some time in the future, people will look at our ways of makeup, and it could be similar or it could be different. But still, the way that we put on lipstick or contoured our faces will be etched into history.
3. Makeup is a literal art form.
I love how creative the makeup world has become. There are countless ways to experiment. Whether that is adding pops of color in your eyeshadow or your lips, or going extreme by designing makeup that can go with costumes. I think there should be a runway fashion show where the only thing showcased is the talent of makeup. I would so go and watch that.
I, as a woman, love makeup. It matches my mood and makes me feel amazing about myself. I strap myself with my weapons of lipstick, mascara, and gel eyeliner, and head out into the war of this thing called life.
