Why am I crying over an ad for something that makes your breath fresh?

Extra Gum Commercial: The Story Of Sarah And Juan

A gum commercial? Being romantic? Causing tears? What is this nonsense? Normally, gum doesn't come to mind when you think of romance, but Extra's newest gum commercial will probably change your thoughts of romance all together. Girls everywhere are reevaluating their love lives, and overthinking each encounter they've ever had when asking for a piece of gum because of this ridiculously adorable commercial.

Basically, the commercial tells the story of two high school sweethearts who end up getting engaged by the end of the ad. If that isn't cute enough for you, the love song "Can't Help Falling in Love," plays throughout the entire commercial. The song, alone, is enough to make you start sobbing, but when it's mixed with the lovey-dovey scenes of the commercial it intensifies the waterworks. I'm not one to cry over mushy commercials like these, but I have to admit that even I shed a tear of two by the end. Before I continue, let me remind you that this is a gum commercial, even though it seems like a romantic film.

What starts out as a seemingly cliche commercial about sharing gum, turns into an entire love story that can make the manliest of men cry. The “Story of Sarah & Juan,” as the commercial calls it, is not the usual young romance that we're all used to seeing on campus. Sarah and Juan's story is about their blooming love that all started thanks to some dropped books and a "thank you" offered in the form of gum. Every time the couple is shown making memories together, there is an offering of gum. Sarah and Juan's relationship isn't even the best part. The scene that takes the cake is the final scene where Sarah walks into a room where mini masterpieces of the couple's life together are drawn on all of the gum wrappers that have been exchanged over the years. These wrappers are framed and hung up in order of when the events took place, the final wrapper being a proposal to marriage. If that isn't #relationshipgoals I'm not sure what is.

The way Extra presents their product in this commercial is flawless. We are so caught up in the story that the gum exchange isn't even that big of deal, but we are still recognizing that it is happening. Who ever came up with this gem of an advertisement is on some next level, because after we’re done wiping the tears away with our kleenex tissues, all we can say is "wow". Great job, Extra, for creating a commercial that I actually enjoy watching in between my episodes of "Master Chef." I don't know how I would make it through if it weren't for you.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
