15 Reasons Being Close to Your Extended Family is the Best Thing Ever
Kristan Russell

Growing up, I've always felt an extreme amount of love from all around my family. I'm close to my parents, my siblings, my grandparents, my cousins, my aunts, my uncles, and the list goes on. Having this support from day one of my life, I just had always assumed that people had the same close relationships in their own lives. Quickly I learned that wasn't the case. I would get on the bus and hear my friends complain about how they had to go see their annoying cousins over break. I would hear adults in the waiting room at the doctor's office complaining about how they had to see their in-laws. Suddenly I realized how completely rare yet amazing it is to be so close to my extended family. I'm sure anyone else who is in my shoes can relate. Here are 15 Reasons why being close to your extended family is the best thing ever!

1. Going home for the holidays i never a drag but instead, it's always a party!

2. You have a whole entire posse that supports you and has your back

You always get filled in on the family drama

Just kidding...there isn't any family drama because everyone loves each other and gets a long pretty easily

You have inside jokes that only your whole family understands

You get to see the people you love grow up and you get to be part of it every step of the way

Your family has group chats that includes all your cousins, aunts, uncles, and siblings where you all share the latest jokes and life updates

If you ever need someone to go on a trip with you, you automatically know who to call

These people understand you more than you could ever understand yourself

They've always got your back and they are ready to defend you against anyone who tries to mess with you

They're the largest and loudest cheering section you'll ever have

They'll embarrass you endlessly and you'll act like you hate it but secretly you understand that it's just because they love you and that makes you happy.

You may not see them very often but when you connect it's like the best party ever

Your family fits the definition of both family and friend

You have people who love you with their whole heart conditionally and that is something that is really hard to come by.

So to my extended family, thank you. You have shaped me into the person I have become today and that is something that I am so grateful for.

Being close to your extended family is the best blessing ever. No one can fight me on it.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
