New to Philly? Staying for the weekend? Either way you're going to want to be prepared, it's a city out there! Here are some tips and suggestions for your trip!

1. Try not to be a too touristy or rude.

We've all gone city-seeing at some point; it's hard to resist not going when the choice is given. It's fun and exciting seeing new places but be mindful and don't be the annoying tourist everyone hates. Be aware of your surroundings, remember it's a new place, anticipate getting lost and ask for help! When you look at the sights, try and stay organized. The more organization, the easier it is for you and the regular city dwellers.

2. Don't try to be too Philly.

We love that you enjoy our accent so much but try not to overdo it. For example, don't use the word "jawn" or "youse" just because you're in Philly. Don't be fake, especially cause Philadelphians won't appreciate it. Be real to who you are and where you come from. That's not to say you can never speak fluent Philadelphian, our lingo is catchy, so if an iconic word slips out then who cares. In my opinion, jawn really is the greatest noun in the dictionary!

Remember: In Philly, don't ask for sprinkles on your ice cream, ask for jimmies. If you ask for sprinkles you might get a strange look.

3. Don't insult us, try the food!

Everyone knows Philly has some of the most iconic dishes. Don't lie, your mouth watered at that one-of-a-kind cheese steak. Remember, you will never get an authentic cheese steak anywhere but in Philly itself! If you decide to visit, definitely make it to a steak shop.

A tip for ordering: Don't be wordy, just say "wiz with," or "wiz without,"; we'll know what you want. Plus, steak shops are quick paced environments! Lots of cheese steaks to make and so little time to do it: keep the line moving!

Before you leave Philly, make sure you stop and grab a soft pretzel and some Tastykakes; these are two of the biggest delicacies in Philly; no trip to Philly is complete without them! For pretzels I recommend the Philadelphia Pretzel Factory. There are all kinds of yummy creations there!

4. Don't insult the sports teams and don't talk up their biggest rivals.

Philadelphia loves its sports teams. If you're going to be in Philly, keep negative comments about the Philly teams to yourself. If you're loud about it, you will cause some fans to be unhappy and they might start something. For example, one of the worst things to do is to visit Center City and start discussing how bad you think the Philly teams are. This also applies to Philly's rivals. Don't celebrate them near Philly fans, you might end up in quite the scuffle!

5. Experience SEPTA.

While you're in Philly, especially in Center City, don't drive too much. Traffic is crazy, so instead, look into SEPTA! They are our form of public transportation and they can get you just about anywhere you need to go. It may take some time to figure out everything schedule-wise, but you can always ask for help!

6. Stop by Wawa.

Wawa is a big cultural place. Philadelphians will go there for just about anything, after all they are convenience stores! Remember those Tastykakes I mentioned? Wawa is one of the many places you can find them! Also, they have some of the best hoagies ever. What are hoagies, you ask? Hoagies are Philadelphian for hero sandwiches or subs- sandwiches that are on a long roll stuffed with meat, cheese, veggies and condiments. So yummy!

Philadelphia is a beautiful city with a lot of history. Check out the historical sites while you're there and do the whole Philly experience. It's a wonderful experience with plenty to see, just be prepared to wait while doing it.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
