May 21st, 2014 is hands down one of my top favorite experiences in all of my life. Why, you ask? Well, it was the day that my sweet little niece came into the world; weighing 7 pounds and 9 ounces. Her bright hazel eyes, brunette curls and sweet smile was enough to wrap me in a love so deep, it was hard to believe possible. I could not contain my tears upon the very first moment I laid my eyes on her because I was so amazed that God's great love and creation had been crafted into these beautiful girl. I can't really express all the emotions I felt in that moment because it was as if a rush of it, swept over me. Now, my girl has grown into a spunky 2-year old, who I continue to spoil and love on. I want to share with you 5 of my favorite things about becoming an aunt.
1. First things first, watching her grow and obtain her own little personality had to be one of the coolest things ever. She has her own little ways that make you just want to pick her up and squeeze her.
2. I noticed a lot of myself in her. Not just because I was constantly told that we looked very much alike but on my own I could tell how much of myself shined through her. Whether it was how she spoke, her love for selfies or her love for the water and being a little mermaid.
3. The little things about her are enough to make my day so much brighter. Her contagious laughs and gap-toothed smile are two things about her that make everything that is wrong in this world go away.
4. She's my spunky little hipster. Being an aunt to a little girl is fun because I am able to incorporate my own style into her and I think she totally rocks the poetic hipster type. She enjoys dressing up in all my hats and accessories and taking selfies. Yet again, I am faced with a little version of myself.
5. Lastly, she has given me reason to make a difference in this next generation. I want to be that light to her and be someone I wish I had while I was growing up. I want to be there for her when the going gets tough and to be there for her when she needs someone other than her parents to talk to. She has given me so much without even knowing and I plan on giving back to her without even hesitating.
Becoming an aunt to this little girl was not hard, nor was it easy, but I would do it all over again in a heartbeat. I loved watching her grow and become almost a little version of myself. I love every little quirk about her that makes her who she is. I love how much she loves dressing and being like me. I love the purpose she has given me to give back the love she shared with me that late Wednesday night when God brought her into this world. I want to share that this is more than just being an aunt or someone who will spoil you rotten. This is about being her shoulder to cry on, her babysitter, her cheerleader, her encourager, and her BEST FRIEND.
