I officially have 18 more days until I return back to Chowan University for the Fall 2016 semester. I have had plenty of time to reflect on how this year is going to be different from last year. For one, I will not be that lost and confused new freshman on campus. Not that it was a bad thing, I am just happy that I know where everything is on campus now and I know a majority of the staff members. Second, I will not have to buy as many supplies for school as I had to do last year. A lot of what I bought for my freshman year is coming back with me into the new suite that I have been placed into with my wonderful friends. In knowing that, I have set some expectations for myself that I hope to fulfill.
1. Making the President's List
Last year I made the Dean's List both semesters (A's and Bs), however, this year I plan to make the President's List (all A's) and I know that if I keep up with my assignments and study the right amount for tests I should do just that this semester. This is going to pose as a challenge for me because I have to attend seven classes this semester versus the usual five. I also have a whopping six classes on Monday, Wednesday, Friday's as well. My schedule is like this because I am beginning to take honors classes as well as my basic classes.
2. Getting more involved on campus
It is always a good idea to get involved with campus clubs or just going to campus events. These are made for you to get out and about and socialize with others who share the same passion as you do. If you do not share any things in common with anyone, then the campus events are there to help us socialize and get to know one another as well as the staff members. As for me, I am currently involved with Alpha Lambda Delta, Honors College Student Association, the Campus Program Board, and Chowan Singers. This upcoming semester I hope to become more involved in campus life than I already am. I might join a club or volunteer for various activities around campus.
3. Exploring new places
Since I got the most amazing chance to join Chowan Singers, I hope that I will be able to explore places that I have never been before. Chowan Singers usually travel to a wide variety of places around the United States to sing. Just recently they went to New York to perform at Carnegie Hall. It has always been a dream of mine to travel around the world and see what each state has to offer. Why not follow my dream while also singing my way through it?
My expectations may seem like a stretch to some people but I know that if I keep my head in the books, stay involved on campus, and sing my heart out I believe that anything is possible.
