The Evolution Of Modern Day Relationships

When did "respectful" become the new "whipped?"

The Evolution Of Modern Day Relationships

During their college years, most people generally have two very different outlooks on how to operate their love lives. On the one hand, there are the people who drift from person to person, not wanting to be tied down by anyone or anything.

On the other hand, there are people who decide that their time is better occupied by one person who they truly care for. Neither option is more or less respectable than the other. However, boys specifically receive criticism for choosing to be with, as well as spend a large amount of time with, the individuals with whom they are in a relationship with.

Often, they are called "whipped" by their friends, especially those who are not in relationships themselves. The term "whipped" has become hilariously overused and it brings about a crucial question in today's society: does being respectful make you whipped?

Before you rush to judge the question of whether being respectful makes you whipped or not, think about these three things: does being kind to your partner make you whipped? Does caring deeply for another individual, to the point where you would do anything to make them happy, make you whipped? Does maintaining a healthy relationship make you whipped? When put in this perspective, the term "whipped" sounds absolutely ridiculous in itself. If being kind, caring, respectful, and considerate of a female makes you "whipped," then this is what all boys should aim to be.

For the boys who feel the need to call your friends "whipped," I ask you: why? If you were true friends, wouldn't you be happy that your "boy" has found someone who they care for? Friends are supposed to support each other, not degrade their choice to spend time and effort on a relationship that they find important.

In parallel to this, to the boys who actually listen to the unwarranted and absurd disapproval from their supposed friends: you are just as misguided as they are. If being with another person has brought you happiness and has bettered your life, there is no reason why your friends should ever make you feel bad about that. If they were your real friends, they would not even try to.

There is no more foolish term in English slang than the word "whipped." A boy being respectful to his girlfriend should earn him the highest amount of praise possible, not condemnation from his peers.

The ability to sustain a healthy relationship with mutual respect from both parties is a challenge at this age, especially in this generation. There is no reason to ever poke fun at a guy who is able to preserve a valued relationship with his girlfriend.

To all of the immature boys out there: maybe if you acted more like your "whipped" friend, you wouldn't be single.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
