Everywhere You Go Is An Adventure

I always dream to travel, but, as it turns out, I already am.

Everywhere You Go Is An Adventure
Katelyn Charlton

For the longest time, I have had the need to move, to travel, to just go somewhere and make a new city of my own. Well let me tell you, after moving my belongings to a new "home" each year, I have come to the realization that moving, in a way, is traveling.

I feel like the place I am in now let's me network and experience new places for the perfect amount of time. Being in a place for more than two weeks or even two months can have a lot of perks. And I know I won't be here for another four years to experience a college scene. This time, it's different and it's only one year. I love the idea of being able to enjoy the place I am living now. It's scary to be somewhere where I don't really know a familiar face, but that happens to everybody and everyone gets passed that fear.

Let me explain.

Moving from house to apartment to house again is a new adventure. You decorate your room, the house and acclimate yourself with new roommates, or in some cases, no roommates at all (snaps to those who get to lounge topless all the time in their living room). It's a new adventure and you learn more about yourself when moving somewhere that is new to you. It could be on the other side of town, which you have yet to explore before. It could be in a new city.

But, wherever you go, you constantly try to make that temporary place feel like your permanent home.

I say, enjoy the idea of living somewhere new. Even if you are there for a year or less. It's OK if it doesn't mimic your permanent, ideal home because, well, you know it's not going to. You will know when it's the right place to live long-term. Embrace the new sights to see and the different neighborhoods because I guarantee you will meet new people that may become stepping stones to somewhere greater. They may also become your best friends.

The beauty of it is you know you will be headed to a new city or sight soon. It's an adventure, so of course, there will be some bad days. There will be some amazing days. In the end, however, I think we can all agree that the good ones outweigh the bad, and that life is too short to not have the time of your life.

Make the most of your travels, my friends, whether they last a day or a year. It's definitely a life-changer. (Besides, the more you travel, the more Snapchat filters you can see.)

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
