Do you remember that feeling you got the day before your first day of high school? So much excitement and fear all at once. How about the feeling you got right before you walked the stage at your high school graduation. The moment you received your diploma you realized that life as a careless teenager was officially over. Your parents and teachers were constantly reminding you that college was no joke. Every day of senior year your teachers lectured you that in college you can't skip class, they made it very clear that studying was something you were going to have to get accustom too.
But after a few weeks into your freshman year you realized that going out the night before an 8:00 AM class was perfectly acceptable in the eyes of society. You learned the Do's and Don'ts of college, like no Friday classes and only taking classes after 12 o'clock. Before you know it you've mastered the art of going out every night and being a functional human being the next day.
Now you're halfway through the your last summer before graduation and you start getting the same feeling back again, anxious but fearful. Happy to be staring your career but scared because you don't know what the future holds. I am sure you've started to picture what your dream job looks like, and you’ve be gone to realize that you're dream job is no longer a dream, it is slowing becoming a possibility and can become a reality within a blink of an eye. Everything you've been working for your whole life is now only two semesters away. Are you ready?
You use to find it so easy to talk about your career plans when people asked you about them. You would say things like "In three years when I graduate I want to go to grad school" or "in two years when I graduate I plan on apply to accounting firms and starting my career."
Well news flash, guys, you're only a year out before you have to put all those plans into action. But guess what, it's okay. It is okay to feel nervous, and be scared, it's okay too feel as though your not prepared for the real world. Before you know it you'll slowly be starting to feel more confident about graduation, and in a few months you'll look back at this time and laugh because just like they tried to scare you about college, they'll try and scare you about life after college.
Take a deep breath, and step by step, you'll learn how to survive in this game we call life.
