An overview of how awesome MY friends are, and how they are probably more like YOUR friends than you would have guessed.
Although each sorority is different, each group of girls within each sorority are different, and each individual within those friend groups are different, it is not too far reaching to say that there are always similarities among our most lovable friends. There is a Twitter account that has become popular called “We all know a.” This account tweets silly, irrational things such as, “We all know a dumb chick named Anna.” Luckily for you, readers, I am not here to make nonsense assumptions about who you know and how they behave; I am, however, willing to bet that some of your friends and some of my friends have a few character traits in common!
Claire: My buddy Claire is hilarious. She is ditzy and incredibly clever all at once. She loves all of her friends and family so much, and she never fails to remind everyone of that. She covers you in compliments and too-tight hugs while always making you feel important. I would not go as far to say that all of you have a friend who occasionally creates her own talk show via snapchat story, but if you do not already have something close to a Claire Fox in your life I suggest you find one ASAP.
Chaney: My Chaney Baldwin is the friend who I often want to smack over the head because I get so tired of explaining things to her. However, when she is not around to ask me a million questions, I miss her terribly. Chaney is an encourager and a source of goofiness. We all have a friend who we like to poke fun at, but we know life would simply not be as good without them around.
Sarah: Sarah Roberson is my friend who is more like an actual sister, not a sorority sister (although she is that), but an actual sister. Sarah and I love each other no matter how much we get under each other’s skin, tell each other the hurtful truth or complain about each other to our other friends. Sarah is the friend who you one hundred percent are yourself with, even the worst parts of yourself, and you know she is not in the least unhappy with you for that. I know all of you have a Sarah, because who could survive without one?
Kristin: Kristin is sort of my twin? Actually, she is literally my sorority family twin, but that is not what I mean. Kristin and I have the same sense of humor, and there is hardly a better friend than the one that thinks all the same things are hilarious. When everyone else thinks I am being a total idiot, she gets my stupidity; alternatively, when she says things that make zero sense, I cannot even focus on how illogical it is because I am too busy laughing. I hope all of you have a Kristin to share silly laughs with.
Courtney: Courtney McAlexander is the friend that I have not known very long, but in the time that I have known her, I have already come to realize that for the rest of my life she will do anything I need her to do. She is the friend who will get out of bed to get me a coke even though I am closer to the fridge and will not call me lazy for it. Court is the friend that you are immediately comfortable with; she is the only friend I have ever had that I did not feel uncomfortable the first time she saw me cry. If you have not found your Courtney yet, I hope you get to meet one soon.
Ellen and Emily: I choose to write about Ellen and Emily together because they are incredibly alike, and equally lovable. Ellen Doty and Emily Ware are the sweethearts of the group. Not only are they genuinely nice people at all times (who ever thought these people existed?), but also their actual voices exuberate kindness; I kid you not! Everyone should be so lucky to have sincerely kindhearted people in their lives; I know I’m thankful to have mine.
Anna Katherine: AK, as she is more commonly known, is the girl you’ve known forever but never thought may actually be your soul sister. Through the strong force that is “ice breaker” games pushed upon us new members in the sorority right after bid day, AK and I learned things about each other that made us reconsider being acquaintances and eventually brought us together as close friends. Now Anna Katherine is who I sit on the kitchen floor with and stalk ex boyfriends for hours; she is one of the friends I am completely unashamed to eat all the food in her fridge (it isn’t much anyway), and she is the friend you wonder why you never were friends with before. We all have an Anna Katherine in our friend group.
These sweet-spirited ladies are only a small, magnified portion of the girls I consider my best friends, but the traits that make them so valuable to me are some of the same traits that make your friends so valuable to you. This is a lesson in goodness and quality of character, for if your friends carry some of these same attributes, clearly they are admirable ones. This article is dedicated to my gal pals, both the ones listed above and the many others I count as besties, and also to Phi Mu Kappa Alpha for bringing us all together! May you all be as blessed and rich in friendship as I am.
