Everyday Struggles Of Being A "Girly Girl"

"No, I'm not sick! I'm just not wearing makeup today!"

Everyday Struggles Of Being A "Girly Girl"

You know who you are. You're that friend who takes ten times longer to get ready than everyone else, and can always be found wearing a full face of makeup with her hair done. Sure, you look good, but your friends can't imagine spending the amount of time and effort you do into their appearances. You're the "girly girl" of your friend group. Hey, it's not your fault. It's fun to put on makeup, do your hair, and pick out cute outfits to wear. But, after a while, it can be a bit of a struggle to maintain. It's time consuming, pretty expensive, and hard to stop doing once you start. Here are some everyday struggles you encounter as a "girly girl."

1. It's expensive.

Makeup, hair products, clothes. It really adds up. You love shopping for these products, but by the end of the trip, your wallet is crying. With this addiction, you're going to need to pick up a second job!

2. It takes forever to get ready.

Getting ready every day takes a huge chunk of time. Hey, you need time to make sure you get your look just right. We get it.

3. When you don't wear makeup somewhere, everyone asks you if you're sick.

"THIS IS MY FACE." People take for granted the effort you put into your appearance, so when you take a day off, everyone assumes you're deathly ill. No, sometimes you're just too lazy to go through the whole process of getting ready. It's a lot of work!

4. When people tell you "You'd look so much better without all of that makeup!" or "You don't need all of that stuff to look good!"

Though these comments are well-intentioned, they really only make you mad. You enjoy putting a lot of time and effort into your appearance, and you like the way you look with "all of that stuff." Besides, when a guy tells you he likes the "no makeup look" on women, he really just means women who look like they aren't wearing any makeup but actually are. Ugh!

5. You're addicted to online shopping, but you're usually too broke to actually buy anything.

You could spend hours scrolling through the webpages of your favorite stores, just looking at all of the cute clothes you could buy. You live for online sales. There's just something so satisfying about having new clothes delivered right to your doorstep.

6. The heartbreaking moment when you run out of one of your favorite products.

No one knows the pain of a woman who ran out of her favorite liquid eyeliner right before having to leave for the day.

7. When you take your makeup off at the end of the day, but people are still sending you snapchats.

The constant struggle. Looks like those messages are going to have to wait until tomorrow morning!

8. Staining one of your favorite outfits.

"I'm fine!" This mistake could ruin your whole day. How are you supposed to finish your day with this glaring (probably not even noticeable) stain on your outfit?! You will become a social outcast for sure. Fortunately, you've learned how to be an excellent stain-remover, and hopefully you will be able to save the clothing when you get home.

9. Bad hair days.

A bad hair day can be a huge upset. No matter what you try, you just can't get your hair to look the way you want it to. You try your best to hide it, but you're convinced everyone can tell.

10. Bad makeup days.

So upsetting. A bad makeup day leaves you feeling frustrated and self-conscious for the rest of the day. You can spend tons of time trying to fix it, but let's face it, it's just going to be one of those days.

11. Having "nothing to wear."

Okay, so odds are, you probably have a closet full of perfectly acceptable outfits. But, today you just can't decide on one. This adds even more time to your morning routine, and can leave you rushing to get ready on time.

12. Chipped nail polish drives you insane.

When you spend a long time painting your fingers and toes, you are devastated to discover that your nail polish is beginning to chip away. You are forced to choose between two options: chip away the rest of the polish so your fingers won't look gross (and potentially destroy your nails), or continuously paint over where your polish has chipped off.

13. Your bathroom sink is always cluttered with your various products, placed precariously close to the edge.

Hairspray, leave-in conditioner, moisturizer, a hair brush, hair straightener/curler, blowdryer, various makeup products and brushes—it's a hot mess. You know you're one slip-up away from your eyeshadow palette falling into the sink or your straightener crashing to the floor and crushing your toes, but you like to live dangerously.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
