I want to clear the air before you get any further––this is not to be confused with every girl has to wear makeup. If you've never worn makeup and feel completely confident and that you don't need to, more power to you. Being a girl is hard enough to begin with. On top of all that is the constant pressure from society to fit some kind of mold of perfection or an idea of what is perceived to be "beautiful": skinny, tan, long hair, white teeth, long legs, the list goes on and on. All the pressure to be this unobtainable idea of beautiful can take a toll on a girl who's 5 years old, 15 years old, or even 55 years old.
Here's where makeup comes in to play and why you should wear it. Whether you're on a very limited budget or have all the money in the world, there is makeup that you can afford. The great thing about makeup––it comes off. At the end of the day, it all washes away. It doesn't alter your body, but can give you so much confidence. Say you have acne scars all over your face, something you're really insecure about. With a $10 or $70 foundation, that can all be covered up and make the world of difference giving you so much confidence. And a girl with confidence can take on the world. Apply as much or as little makeup as you like, there's no rules. You can do everything with whatever brushes you want, put it anywhere on your face and even use your own techniques. Whatever makes you feel confident, that's what you should do.
The real kicker is this––makeup can allow you to see that you are your own kind of beautiful. Sure you don't look like the girl on the magazine cover, and that's perfectly okay, because you are your own version of beautiful. It's perfectly okay to cover up a zit or an insecurity you have with a little makeup. It really is what's on the inside that counts. But if some foundation and mascara will make you feel confident, that of confidence that little but of makeup gives you will radiate from within. People aren't going to think about the makeup you're wearing, but the impression you make when you interact with them.
Now, while makeup isn't necessary by any means, if it gives you the confidence to go talk to that cute boy, apply for that job you've wanted, or even just do something you normally wouldn't do––that’s what is important. Makeup doesn't alter the person that you are, the compassion you have for others, or your meaning in life. But, a little touch of makeup can give you the confidence to rule the world, and just maybe you will.
