Rejection Happens

But believe it or not, you aren't a failure.

Rejection Sucks

We fear rejection in so many aspects of our lives. Whether it’s rejection from a crush, a job, or a sports team, it leaves us feeling like we will never be good enough. Getting rejected from my top choice college made me want to give up on everything. When I opened up the rejection letter, a wave of mixed emotions rushed over me. I was upset, angry and confused. I received high grades in all of my classes, I participated in several extracurricular activities, I volunteered in my community, etc. I realized that compared to the other student candidates who had applied to the university, I just didn’t stand out enough.

For a long time, I thought that I would never have a successful future or be as successful as other students who received a seat at the university that so kindly rejected me. If only future me could turn back and tell myself that I couldn’t be more than wrong.

Rejection happens to all of us and is a pretty natural thing in life. If it hasn’t happened to you yet, it will and you are going to be left feeling pretty low. You may beat yourself up for it and actually believe that you are a failure, a loser, or just simply not good enough.

Here’s some advice for you:

Don’t.

What you need to know is that you are so much more than your academics, your rankings, and your numbers. Only you know who you are and only you know what you are actually capable of. If you get turned down from a job or even a university, look at it as a window of opportunity to show them that you were actually the perfect fit. See it as another way for you to create a stronger version of yourself.

If you really want something in life you need to work for it because believe it or not, nothing will be handed to you in the real world. I am a firm believer that I can do absolutely anything that I set my mind to. All I need is motivation and drive to achieve my most ambitious dreams and so do you.

Getting rejected from my top school was only a small bump in the road for me. Since then I have continued to study hard at my current university and have worked every day to create a better version of myself. I still have a lot of improvement to do, but one day I’ll be able to show everyone that ever doubted me that I am good enough.

Moral of the story:

Pick yourself back up. Work harder. Prove them wrong.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
