She was the first major purchase I ever made. The first major decision I got to make on my own (for the most part). It seems funny that when I first got the car it didn't seem as if there could ever be a single problem. The color was perfect, the body had few spots of rust, and I had the hope and expectation that nothing could go wrong. However, she was just a first car. High on miles and getting up there in years.
Over our few years together certain parts began to make strange noises or other parts would prove to have leaks. The rust began to spread and state inspections became harder to pass. It always seemed like lots of work (and a little money) could keep us going strong!
I had my first accident with her or maybe even a couple accidents.
I learned how to handle my first dead battery at 2 a.m. in the middle of winter with her.
She was the reason I learned how to check my oil, tires and radiator.
I had my first encounter with the police with her by my side.
She got me through my first two jobs.
We made the transition from high school to college together.
She always supported my latest interest through bumper stickers or other accessories
She even handled every drink or snack that I or anyone else may have spilled.
She would keep driving until the last possible drop of gas when I didn't have the money to fill it up on time.
The time finally came to turn over, Teresa, my 2001 Ford Taurus. I was sad to think about our great time ending. I would have to name and break in a new car. It just wouldn't be the same without all the memories (and money) I had already had with Teresa.
However, a first car is just a stepping stone. There are plenty of cars in the lot, and the next "perfect" car will always be around the corner. So, thanks Teresa for setting the standards, and don't you worry about me because I will keep driving on!
