Every girl wants her dorm to be a cute as the ones she sees on Pinterest. But let’s be honest, most of the those pins aren’t even real dorm rooms. So, how can you still get your 12’ x 14’ box of a dorm to look like those pins?
1. Copious strands of Christmas lights
I will say that my favorite part of my room is the lights. They set a great mood and make the room feel homey, as opposed to the prison cell feeling that a lot of dorm rooms have.
2. Pictures documenting all of the fun you’ve ever had
Take a pic or it didn’t happen. How is everyone supposed to know you went to Lolla, Puerto Rico, and Michigan this summer unless you have the pictures to prove it? In all honesty, pictures are nice to have if you’re ever feeling a little homesick.
3. A TV to distract you from all things academic
The second you put a TV in your room, your days of class are gone. You will somehow convince yourself that watching a full season of Grey’s Anatomy in one week is the same as actually going to your Human Anatomy lecture. Don’t fool yourself, it’s not. But a TV is a great stress reliever and it will help you unwind after a long day of hard work.
4. Calendar/Organizer
You will need at least one calendar or organizer that you can keep in your room. I have mine mounted right above my desk so I can see what I have going on for the week whenever I sit down.
5. Cute bedding
This is a MUST. Bedding can and will make or break your room. Some people choose to get the same bedding as their roommates, but it’s totally not necessary. Just choose something that’s in the same color scheme and you’re set!
6. Miscellaneous decorations/crafts
Believe it or not, there’s tons of wall space in your little box of a room, so make sure you take advantage of it! I got bored on a few occasions this summer and decided to make a few crafts to hang on our walls (the Pinterest-inspired chevron & sparkle letters.) They have made a great addition and added something a little personal to each side of the room.
Making your room look like a Pinterest pin is so much easier than it seems. Just find a picture you like, and make it happen in your own dorm!
