Let’s be honest, Millennials are pretty awesome! I mean we practically run the world, are super tech-savvy, and we pride ourselves on our desire for progress and ability to be self-reliant. But, we live in a social and media-driven world where everything is about interaction, networking, and staying up to date with the latest, social, global, fashion, or tech trends.
That being said, we would be lying if we said we weren’t “slaves to the machine,” and even bigger liars if we said we could abandon our phones, apps and all the other essentials we could never live without.
1. Your phone
I'm going to be completely honest, my iPhone is my life and my key to the world. As much as I know there are many of us out there that would like to think we could survive without our phones. I KNOW FOR A FACT, that a lot of us millennials could not make it 24 hours without our phones.
I was that person who totally believed I could up until about a month ago when I shattered my phone and had to navigate and survive for 22 hours (couldn’t even make it 24) without my phone. Needless to say, yes I was able to get my new phone and get everything fixed, but I did get lost and I’d be lying if I said I never shed a tear.
2. Amazon
We all know that over the last 5-10 years Amazon has been slowly but surely taking over the world. According to a poll and article conducted by Business Insider, there is one app that stands out above all other millennial needs and that is Amazon shopping app.
I mean, why would we honestly want to leave our comfy homes to go shopping when we could find everything we need on one app and receive it at our door a day later?
3. Instagram
This one goes without saying. It is one of those apps that you can so easily waste all your time on, plus the app’s layout and the algorithm is designed to be addicting!
4. Starbucks
Don’t even get me started on “Starbs.” From the aesthetic to the caffeine recharging every millennial's super-powers, It’s been known to be the go-to coffee choice and joke of every white girl daily routine. Seriously, what would your Instagram or Snapchat feed be without seeing someone’s aesthetically pleasing Starbucks Coffee picture?
5. Chipotle
Four Wise words...“Chipotle Is My Life.”
6. Streaming services
Streaming services speak for themselves. Thanks to Netflix we have access to our favorite movies and tv shows right at our fingertips! And for the music lovers; Pandora started it all, Spotify dominated the game and now Apple Music has been thrown into the mix. Just like every other 21st century millennial essential, it’s available on demand, anytime and anywhere.
7. Target
Target is a gift from above, they have absolutely everything and anything you could possibly need. PRO TIP: when you’re bored or sad it’s a pretty cool place to roam and buy tons of stuff you DON’T need.
8. YouTube
I am a firm believer that YouTube is responsible for the success of so many millennials today as well as the altering of the future of film and video. Just in case any of you are wondering how essential youtube actually is, the statistics show that more than 50% of millennials visit the YouTube site and app at least once a day.
9. Twitter
*Sigh* Twitter. What more could we ask from a social media platform? Thanks to Twitter more than 69% of millennials keep up with the news and issues that are prevalent today with about 86% of them receiving diverse opinions through social media. Plus, Twitter has absolutely everything you need, including the opportunity to fall into a rabbit hole of conspiracy theories, vines, relatable af tweets and live updates on your favorite updates.
10. Pinterest
On behalf of all millennials, I would like to personally thank Pinterest for teaching us all a thing or two. From bullet journaling, party planning, interior design, DIY and studying tips. I honestly don’t know how cringy things would be, or how much money millennials wouldn’t have been able to save on weddings or other events without your DIY expertise!
