There is one thing that everyone has in common- we all hate chapped lips. It hurts, it's unappealing and everybody tries to avoid it. There are countless different types of lip balm on the market, all claiming to moisturize and reduce cracking. Some work better than others, and of course everyone has their own preference. Personally I am a fan of three lip balms: One from Sephora which is tinted, Burt's Bees, and EOS. EOS has been my constant companion for the last two years. I always have one with me and I use it all the time. It smells great and it seems to work....right?
Recently, however, there have been statements and articles talking about the negative effects that EOS causes. It is meant to moisturize, but could it be that it is actually doing more damage than not? Some claim that EOS dries out there lips or creates blisters. One of the most recent articles that has been flooding websites from Huffington Post to Cosmopolitan to Today.com is about a girl who filed a lawsuit against the company that produce EOS. The girl claimed that after using EOS her lips became severely cracked on the edges and started flaking and bleeding. By the next day, apparently, there were severe rashes and blistering that she had to get medical care for.
According to some articles, several other people have claimed to have similar reactions. It seems that it's not just a coincidence or a one in a million bad reaction, but where's the exact proof? I know that I've been using it and haven't had any problems at all so far. I have friends who use it as well and claim that they love it. So what do we do? Should we be avoiding EOS like it's the plague? Or does everybody just react differently to EOS?
It's hard to say, but like I stated before, everyone has their own preferences. Some things you can't judge till you've tried. Maybe a concrete answer about this two-sided situation will come forth- but until then, I guess my only words of wisdom would be to stop using EOS if you start having any negative effects, but to keep that happy, colorful ball of joy as your companion until then.
