Picture a rainy, summer night — You don’t have work, yet none of your friends are around to indulge in some good shenanigans with you. Your best friends are at the beach, on mission trips, working super late etc. You decide to go to your basement, where you find your younger brother playing Xbox or some random PC game. You ask if he wants to do something but he shoos you away while screaming at his friends through his headset. Feeling defeated, you trudge back upstairs to your room. You turn on your laptop, turn off your lights, and crawl into your cozy bed.
So, there you are, having a night in by yourself. Surrounded by your soft, fuzzy pillows and the peaceful sound of the rain. You conclude that the night isn’t too bad after all and decide you want to watch a movie. After logging into your Netflix account and scrolling for what feels like hours, you realize a few things: You’ve seen most of the movies already, started way too many shows to keep track of, and are suddenly so tired that you’re unsure you’d make it through an entire movie. Now what?
While in my predicament, I thought a.) I could just go to sleep b.) I could FaceTime some people or c.) I could make a list of movies to watch another night so that this doesn’t happen again.
I decided on the last option and Google searched some lists of the best movies. Whether I found a movie that was upcoming, newly released, super old, or simply unheard of, I wrote it down. But I couldn’t stop there. I decided to go to YouTube to look up the trailers. I had to know whether or not I should keep them on my list! I swear, I was roughly nine movie trailers in before I realized what was happening. Am I going to go through the entire list? How am I not bored yet? Also, why am I suddenly not as tired as before?
I'll admit it, I'm a very indecisive person (ask my friends how irritating this is) and, as usual, my indecisive tendencies came into play when I was trying to decide on a movie. However, I was happily surprised that once I started watching the movie trailers, I actively chose to continue watching them. Most of them actually kept my attention because they were the perfect amount of time.
Also, the movie trailers either gave away the entire movie (classic) or ended with an impressive cliff hanger. The ones that ended with cliff hangers, made me laugh or cry, or had superb acting skills all made my list. So, in the end, I had a productive night composing my list AND an extremely entertaining night.
Movie trailers give you the same emotions that the actual movie will give you. Spending a night watching some trailers is the perfect compromise if you can't decide on a movie or don't want to sit through an entire film. Every now and then, this is how I spend a night in.
Some may call this pure indecisiveness, but I'm not ashamed.
