Back in the 1990's, electronic dance music made it's name from it's origins in music from the 1980's. Many pioneers such as Paul Oakenfold, Paul Van Dyk, Benny Benassi, Markus Schulz, Ferry Corsten, Carl Cox, & Sasha & Digweed became "underground" household names. Knowing this, there wasn't a distinction among genres like there is now, but more a different appreciation for DJs and producers. As a fan since this era of pioneers began, the notion that the genre of trance keeps coming or going seems to be just as superficial as those who abandoned it.
Just like many other types of music or with the evolution of ideas and collaborations, there seems to be an ongoing debate about what is PURE about trance compared to other sub-genres. Thus, the inclusion of the trance sound during Miami Music Week and Ultra Music Festival is just important to the scene as ever before. Whether or not you liked or disliked the sets of Armin Van Buuren or Above & Beyond on Friday & Saturday of Ultra, let's agree that their presence brings people together as these music festivals set out to do in the first place.
Trance fans or #TranceFamily, wait for Sunday at Ultra Music Festival for the A State of Trance broadcast and line-up. The 12 hour radio broadcast plus highlights by UMF TV show the unity of trance. Feel free to stream these sets provided by Trance Family Global on Mixcloud.
