Enjoy the little things. We hear this phrase so often, but what does it actually mean? What are little things? Why should we enjoy them?
Life is full of simple, everyday moments. Those are the "little things." We need to choose to care about the little things, to take more opportunities to share and create the little things in life. The simple everyday moments are the little things that mean the most.
- The smiles on passing faces on the sidewalk.
- Flowers blooming in spring.
- Leaves changing colors in the fall.
- Children laughing, playing together outside.
- A beautiful sunrise or sunset.
- Holding hands.
- Grandparents sharing that look, the "I love you. Look at this wonderful family we have built together" look.
- Your grandma calling to make sure you have food.
- Forehead kisses.
- Your dad interrogating you about the new boy in your life because lets face it he's always going to be skeptical of any one new in your life.
- A hot shower after a long day.
- The smell of fresh cut grass.
- Baby fingers and baby toes.
- Getting simple recognition for hard work that you've done.
- A shared smile during a kiss.
- Long hugs.
- A friend calling to say "hey," just to hear your voice.
- Getting a letter in mail.
- Puppy kisses.
- Someone older pinching your cheeks (no matter how painful it is).
The little things surround us everyday. It's important to realize them, to see that they're happening, and to appreciate them. Enjoy them, life doesn't need to be about extravagant, over-the-top moments or gestures; life is made up of the small moments. These little things won't always be around to be appreciated, so appreciate them while you have the opportunity to. I'm only eighteen and I hope to have many more opportunities to really enjoy the little things in life, to care and be kind to every person I see a just a little more each day, and I hope that after reading this you will too.
