If Looks Could Kill: 6 Ways To Enhance Your Halloween Costume With Makeup

Let's face it. Halloween is the first holiday to kick off the best season of the year, and you want to commemorate the occasion by killing it with your costume.

The only problem anyone could have with Halloween is the high expense that comes with a high-quality costume. Plus, store-bought costumes can possibly result in someone else wearing the same one. We want to avoid playing a game of "who wore it better" at all costs.

If you want to stand out at the party and even win the costume contest, pick up a makeup brush and get to blending! While you can wear the most basic clothing, makeup can elevate your look and give a unique twist to your spooky spirit! Here are six ways to kill it with makeup this Halloween.

1. Simple yet spooky spider look.

This is the perfect example of drawing all the attention to your face for Halloween! In this tutorial, beauty influencer Tina Halada wears a simple black turtleneck but stands out because of the spider legs sprawling out of her eyes. In a way, it's both sexy and spooky at the same time.

2. Whimsical werewolf.

Chrisspy is the reigning queen of glam Halloween looks. This look, which is reminiscent of MTV's Teen Wolf, is easily attainable with some brown shadows and a hunger to create. A special tip is to raise your eyebrows and paint them on straight so you can turn heads! Stroke your brush to create a hair-like effect and to make your brows look extra furry. The colored contacts are optional, but can really enhance your look!

3. Modern twist on an iconic comic character.

There are so many variations of The Joker, but Heath Ledger's version of the iconic villain in The Dark Knight series is probably the easiest and fastest one to achieve with makeup. Although there are still the options of creating the original cartoon version or Jared Leto's Suicide Squad version, this version has a specific spooky edge that is sure to win hearts this Halloween (and because of nostalgia, of course).

4. Pop culture perfection.

Using trendy events and media in pop culture is also a way to go about when choosing which look to create. Shane Dawson's nine-part series about notorious YouTuber Jake Paul has taken the Internet by storm, racking up millions of views and even inspiring watch parties. Beauty influencer SophDoesNails used this to her advantage and created a fun look inspired by Dawson's original thumbnail, depicting a smiling Jake Paul with half his face unzipped and revealing a more somber expression. This is the perfect look to get people talking!

5. Haunting take on classic glam.

This is where the skills really come in. Desi Perkins, one of the most intricately skilled makeup artists in the game, combined the world of Halloween and SFX makeup with classic glam. Perkins created this look with black and white creme makeup, along with usual items found in her makeup kit. To create the melting effect, the artist used Mehron's 3-D gel. This is probably one of the most creative Halloween looks thus far; as the years pass, they get trickier for nothing but a Halloween treat.

6. Horrific human Jack-O-Lantern.

It goes without saying that this is the scariest look of them all. If you ever feel the need to look like you walked straight out of Halloween Horror Nights, Glam and Gore is the channel for you. Mykie, the makeup artist behind Glam and Gore, is famous for her SFX makeup tutorials but still loves a good glam (hence her channel name). However, this is more the gore side than anything, and you'll be sure to spook your friends with this look! Liquid latex, fake blood, spirit gum, and scar wax was utilized to create this terrifyingly amazing creature.

With any of these looks, you'll be sure to turn heads at every Halloween party! Never forget that practice makes perfect and that you can re-watch these tutorials as many times as you need to. Make sure to have fun and be safe this spooky season!
